Sunday saw the 2025 WNBA All-Star rosters being officially announced, and like all rosters, there were fan-favorite picks, but also noticeable snubs. One such instance that stood out was the New York Liberty’s Jonquel Jones being sidelined, whose injuries have limited her to just nine of 18 games this season.
The reigning Finals MVP would not be seen as the WNBA All-Star games commence at Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Jones, who was sidelined because of her ankle injury and denied her a spot to showcase her skills, clearly wasn’t happy about the decision.
Jonquel Jones Upset Over All-Star Snub
“Nothing worse than playing like an All Star and not being one,” Jones wrote taking to X to voice her displeasure.. “With that being said, thanks to all the people who took the time to vote for me and congratulations to all the All Stars this year.”
Throughout her third season with the Liberty, her run has been interrupted many times owing to her ankle injury. She originally injured it in June in Washington and hasn’t been available for play since June 19.

Her impact in the league, however, cannot be denied. The Liberty are 8-1 when she’s playing, while 4-5 when she’s not. Their first postseason title defense has taken a tumble, with six losses in the past nine games, without her on the court. Despite her injuries, Jones averaged 12.1 points and 9.6 rebounds across the nine games she’s appeared in.
The five-time All-Star, titled the 2021 WNBA MVP, led New York to its first championship and became the Commissioner’s Cup MVP in 2023. She earned her first All-Star nod in 2017, when she was a standout for the Connecticut Sun. She missed the 2018 All-Star nod but gained it back in 2019.

In 2021, she was selected in the WNBA’s unique format of the USA vs. Team WNBA. Last year, she once again participated in the All-Star weekend events, reaching the three-point contest finals. Had it not been for her injuries, there would have been nothing stopping her from gaining the All-Star nod this year as well.
Per the Liberty, Jones will miss four to six weeks as of June 21. Although Jones later confirmed she’s feeling much better, there’s no specific return date for her.
