The Los Angeles Sparks can’t seem to catch a break this season, either on or off the court. With a struggling 4-9 record after their June 17 loss to the Seattle Storm, the team is still looking for momentum.
But instead of turning things around with a big performance, the recent headlines were about something else, veteran guard and two-time WNBA champion Kelsey Plum.
Fans Are Not Happy About Kelsey Plum’s Recent Behavior
In a video that quickly went viral, Plum was seen outside the Sparks’ team hotel when a fan approached her for an autograph. It started out normal, but the vibe changed once the fan said he had tracked her down by spotting the team bus outside.
Plum didn’t hide her reaction. She told the fan, “Don’t y’all find that kind of weird? I’m really turned off right now, I’m not going to lie.”
Her tone was blunt and direct, and she made it clear she didn’t like the approach even though she still signed the trading card the fan handed her.

Plum’s reaction despite the thoughtful gesture to sign the card sparked a lot of mixed opinions online.
In the video, the fan had a folder filled with trading cards, many of them featuring Plum. That left some people wondering why she acted cold toward someone who seemed like a real fan.
“Was that not her card?” asked a fan.

But others said the fan might have had other motives. Autographed items can go for a lot of money, and not every autograph request comes from a true supporter. For someone as well-known as Plum, it can be hard to tell the difference.
“They sell the autographed merch,” wrote another user.

Plum, who has gone viral before for off-court moments, usually strikes a fun and tough image. But this moment just didn’t sit right with some.
“Well, she just lost me as a fan,” one fan wrote.

While most people debated the autograph moment, one user called out something else. The original poster claimed Plum wasn’t well known until Caitlin Clark entered the league. Another fan quickly shut that down.
“Wrong. SO many people knew who she was,” replied the fan.
Wrong. SO many people knew who she was.

As the Sparks try to turn their season around, this viral video is sparking bigger conversations about privacy, celebrity, and fan behavior in the WNBA.
