‘It’s Speculation’ – Caitlin Clark, Stephanie White Set the Record On ‘Division’ On the Fever’s Team

Caitlin Clark, Stephanie White say Indiana Fever divide is all 'speculation,' question reports legitimacy.

After injuries to star Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever encountered several challenges last season. With Clark back this season, hopes are very high in Indiana. Still, the Fever have experienced an up-and-down start.

A recent three-game winning streak has lifted them to 8-5 and third in the Eastern Conference. Even so, questions have persisted around Clark’s relationship with head coach Stephanie White.

Caitlin Clark, Stephanie White Call Fever ‘Divide’ Just ‘Speculation’

Clark is tied for the team-high in scoring with teammate Kelsey Mitchell, each averaging 20.3 points per game. Their performances, along with star center Aliyah Boston, who is scoring 17.0 points and grabbing 8.4 rebounds per game, are crucial to the team.

Despite that trio’s success, the Fever opened 5-5. Questions about Clark and her head coach have lingered, even after both downplayed concerns.

In fact, Clark’s coach believes the two are extremely alike.

“I have so much respect and admiration for her as a player and a person, the way that she handles herself.” White said.  “We’re very much alike in terms of our competitive fire, our competitive spirit, our perfectionism so to speak, and Type A personalities.”

White also added that she “loves going to work with Clark every day.”

“I love that she loves to be coached and challenged and pushed,” White explained. “She wants to be the best, and you want to be surrounded by people who want to be the best, so she makes it easy to come to work and to get after it every day.”

After their third straight win, an 85-75 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, Clark once more assured reporters there is nothing to worry about.

“We on a three-game win streak, we’re doing good,” Clark, who scored 25 points in the victory, told reporters.

White said she wasn’t sure there were any legitimate reports out there, while Clark agreed, saying, “it’s all speculation.”

“I don’t think we’re talking about journalism,” White said. “If we’re going to continue to create news from fans on social media or bots on social media, or whatever it may be, then that’s a problem.”

Any time a superstar struggles, media speculation about the player-coach relationship is common. That explains the current focus on Clark and White.

“I think legitimate news sources need to report legitimate news,” White added.

Of course, if the Fever keep up their winning ways, there won’t be too many questions about the future of the Fever.

Clark, White, and the Fever will return to the floor on Tuesday night when they host the Toronto Tempo. The game will tip at 7:00 p.m. ET and will air on USA.
