Is Paige Bueckers Playing Tonight? Latest on the Wings Superstar’s Injury Status for Monday’s Game vs. Aces

Is Paige Bueckers playing on Monday night when the Wings face off against the Aces? Here's the latest on the Dallas phenom's injury status.

On Saturday, Paige Bueckers sat out the Dallas Wings’ 84-83 loss to the Portland Fire due to an ankle injury that she suffered during the team’s previous game against the Phoenix Mercury two days earlier.

Now, with the Wings back in action tonight against the Las Vegas Aces, all eyes are on Bueckers to see if she’ll suit up against A’ja Wilson and Co.

Paige Bueckers Injury Update: Latest on Wings Superstar’s Availability vs. Aces

Wings head coach Jose Fernandez said that Bueckers is day-to-day and stressed that the team would be cautious with its superstar.

“It’s a long season,” Fernandez told ESPN. “Paige is who she is. Trust me, Paige wants to be on the floor tonight. But the best thing for her longevity, for her career, for the franchise is making sure we take care of her, and she takes care of her body.”

Bueckers is listed as probable for tonight’s matchup against the Aces, and she participated in Monday’s morning shootaround, which is a great sign for her availability.

This ankle injury doesn’t appear to be significant, and it seems the Wings were just being cautious by sitting Bueckers on Saturday against Portland.

When Bueckers initially suffered the ankle sprain last Thursday against Phoenix, she was actually able to return to the game after getting taped up. She finished with a season-high 31 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists in the 85-70 win over the Mercury.

“Adrenaline is the best drug, so [I] didn’t really feel it during the game,” Bueckers said afterwards. “Just wanted to power through, help the team get a win.”

This season, Bueckers is averaging 19.8 points, 5.8 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.0 3s, while shooting 52.3% from the field, 42.9% from 3-point range, and 78.6% from the free-throw line. She is one of the WNBA’s biggest stars and most popular players, while also being a major reason that the Wings are currently 8-5 (the third-best record in the Western Conference).

The Aces are the No. 1 team in the Western Conference with a 10-3 record, and Wilson is widely regarded as the best player in the WNBA, so this is a highly anticipated matchup between two superstars. And barring a last-minute setback, it certainly seems Bueckers will be able to play tonight.
