The Indiana Fever is on a three-game winning streak, while Caitlin Clark seems to slowly gain momentum after a series of injury troubles.
But heading into Thursday night’s road game against the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center, the back injury that has followed Clark since the season opener remains on the injury report.
What Is Caitlin Clark’s Injury Status?
Clark had to get her back adjusted during the season-opening win over the Dallas Wings. She missed the May 20 game against the Portland Fire, ruled out just two hours before tipoff with back soreness.
The Fever also received an official league warning over how that scratch was handled, with the WNBA noting Clark had not been listed on the injury report the day before. She came back five days later and put up 22 points and nine assists in a 90-82 win over Golden State last Friday.
Per The Athletic’s James Boyd, Clark is listed as probable for tonight’s game with a back injury. Guard Bree Hall is also probable with an illness.
Asked Steph White on CC’s probable injury report status and what it may be going forward:
“Just to make sure that there’s clarity and no issues with league policy, I think that we will. I think you can expect to see it probable going forward.” pic.twitter.com/fT1t1FZABM

Head coach Stephanie White addressed the injury report situation directly. She mentioned that Clark will be listed on the injury report as probable to avoid any similar troubles with the league.
“Just to make sure that there’s clarity and no issues with league policy, I think that we will. I think you can expect to see it probable going forward,” White said. Clark even admitted that her injury would have to be listed as ‘soreness’ on the injury report going forward.
If Clark plays tonight, the Valkyries will have a major problem to face. She went for 22 points on seven of 15 from the field, including four threes, and dished out nine assists last Friday.
The Valkyries have the best net rating in the WNBA this season and held the New York Liberty 20 points below their average just last week. But Indiana beat them at home and won by eight.
Clark also currently leads the league with 9.0 assists per game and ranks third in scoring at 23.8 points per game through six games this season. She is on 497 assists right now and is just three short of rewriting yet another WNBA record.
If Clark plays tonight and dishes out at least three assists, she will beat Sue Bird’s record and become the fastest WNBA player in history to put up 1,000 points and 500 assists. Bird set that record in 82 games. If Clark does it tonight, she would’ve done it in 59. That’s beyond impressive, and fans will certainly be waiting for the special moment.
