Angel Reese’s season with the Chicago Sky has taken a dramatic and unexpected turn. After a promising start, the Sky’s 2025 campaign has unraveled, leaving the team near the bottom of the WNBA standings with a 10-31 record.
Now, with just a few games left in the regular season, their star player is clashing with the organization, leading to a suspension that has everyone asking the same question.
Will Angel Reese Play Against the Las Vegas Aces?
Following a 97-77 blowout loss to the injury-riddled Indiana Fever on September 5, the Sky are preparing to face the third-seeded Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, September 7. However, Reese’s availability for the game at T-Mobile Arena in Nevada is complicated.

According to reports, Reese will travel and play in Las Vegas, but she will only be available for the second half of the game due to her team-issued suspension. Reese did not play against the Fever, but that absence was due to accumulating her eighth regular-season technical foul. Her last game action was an 88-64 win over the Connecticut Sun, where the 23-year-old put up 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Why Did the Chicago Sky Suspend Reese?
The situation escalated earlier this week when The Chicago Tribune published a brutally honest interview with Reese. In the article, she criticized her team’s on-court decisions and questioned the front office’s ability to build a championship-caliber roster. The comments quickly went viral and sparked significant backlash.
Specifically, Reese’s words appeared to question the roster spot of veteran star Courtney Vandersloot, who is recovering from an ACL injury. Reese also urged the team to sign younger players with more experience winning titles. While she later apologized for her remarks, the Sky chose to suspend her for making a public statement deemed “detrimental” to the team.
In an official statement, the Sky explained their decision. “Because of statements detrimental to the team made by Angel Reese during league-mandated media, she will not play in the first half of the game on September 7 against the Las Vegas Aces,” the team said.
“The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player. We are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team.”
Head coach Tyler Marsh confirmed the matter was being handled internally and that he had spoken with Reese, but he declined to share details of their conversation. Unsurprisingly, Reese’s public criticism has fueled multiple trade rumors, with many speculating she could be moved to a team better suited to her ambitions.
Despite the controversy, she remains one of the best young players in the league, averaging 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.5 steals this season. While some fans were upset by her comments, many agreed with her assessment, hoping to see her lead a turnaround for the Sky next season.
