Chicago Sky’s struggles this season just do not seem to be ending. With a disappointing 9-27 record and four losses in their last five games, fans in the Windy City are desperate for a spark.
As the Sky prepare to take on the powerhouse Las Vegas Aces on August 25, all eyes are on their young star, Angel Reese. The biggest question on every fan’s mind is a simple one: Will she be the difference-maker they so desperately need?
Will Angel Reese’s Return Be Enough to Spark the Sky?
Good news for Chicago Sky fans: Reese will be available for the highly anticipated matchup against the Aces on Monday night. Her comeback began on August 19 against the Seattle Storm after she missed seven straight games due to consistent back issues. Before that game, the team was hopeful about her return.
“She looked good in practice yesterday, and she came in today feeling pretty good at shootaround. Spirits are high, and they’re hopeful. It is a game-time decision for her to play tonight, but it’s looking pretty good right now,” said Sky Head Coach Tyler Marsh regarding Reese before her comeback.

In that return, Reese scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but her efforts were not enough to prevent a loss. “I want to hoop. I’m just happy to be out here to play the game I love,” Reese said before the game via the Chicago Sun-Times.
Just two days later, on August 21, she exploded for 21 points and 10 rebounds against the New York Liberty, leading the Sky to their ninth win of the season. However, that momentum did not last long, as Chicago fell to the Connecticut Sun in their following matchup, even with Reese contributing a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.

While Reese herself is not on the injury list, the Sky are still dealing with other roster setbacks. The players currently on the injury list are:
- Ariel Atkins: Probable (Leg)
- Courtney Vandersloot: Out for the Season (ACL surgery)
What Challenges Await Against the Las Vegas Aces?
The Aces enter the contest in much better shape health-wise, with only Cheyenne Parker-Tyus listed on their injury report due to maternity leave. With a relatively healthy squad, Las Vegas is poised to rely on its All-Star duo of A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young.

Wilson has been dominant this season, averaging 23.2 points per game, while Young continues to shine with 16.4 points per contest. Together, they provide Las Vegas with the firepower to overwhelm opponents on both ends of the floor.
For the Sky to secure their 10th win of the season, they will need serious contributions from players like Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. The game is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m. ET at Wintrust Arena, where Sky fans will hope to witness their team get a much-needed win.
