Is A’ja Wilson Playing Tonight Against the Golden State Valkyries? Latest Injury Update on Las Vegas Aces Superstar

When will Las Vegas Aces superstar A'ja Wilson return from her injury. Here's the latest on the three-time WNBA MVP.

A’ja Wilson’s wrist is wrapped, her status is questionable, and the Las Vegas Aces are holding their breath. With their superstar center nursing a sprain from earlier this week, Saturday’s home clash against the Golden State Valkyries at Michelob ULTRA Arena hangs in the balance.

The reigning WNBA MVP suffered an injury during the team’s loss to New York, and now Las Vegas may play without its anchor once again.

What Did the MRI Results Reveal About A’ja Wilson’s Wrist Injury?

Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson suffered a wrist injury during the team’s 87-78 loss to the New York Liberty earlier this week. The three-time WNBA MVP fell on her wrist while going for a layup and immediately exited the game, with officials ruling her out for the remainder of the contest.

Following the injury, Wilson missed Las Vegas’ next game against the Washington Mystics, which the Aces lost 70-68. Wilson was spotted wearing a brace on the affected wrist during the team’s shootaround before that Mystics game.

The good news came from the MRI results. According to the Washington Post‘s Kareem Copeland, Aces head coach Becky Hammon confirmed that Wilson suffered a sprain, with the imaging ruling out a fracture.

However, Hammon’s update came with uncertainty. She didn’t provide much detail beyond confirming the sprain diagnosis and admitted she didn’t have a timeframe for Wilson’s return to action.

How Critical Is Wilson’s Absence for the Struggling Aces?

Wilson’s questionable status comes at a tough time for Las Vegas. She is listed as questionable for Saturday’s showdown against Golden State, and no official timeline has been announced for her return.

This latest setback adds to Wilson’s injury concerns this season. She previously dealt with a blow to the head and was placed in concussion protocol, which also caused her to miss game time on the floor.

Before her recent injuries, Wilson was performing at her typical elite level. She averages 20.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 2.4 blocks per game, helping keep Las Vegas in contention for a playoff spot despite the team’s struggles.

The Aces are 9-11 and on a two-game losing streak. It has been a dismal season for Las Vegas as they battle injuries and inconsistency. With players constantly in and out of the injury report, the team has struggled to generate output on both ends of the floor.

Much of the Aces’ success has come from their core four players: Wilson, Jackie Young, Chelsea Gray, and Jewell Loyd. Their depth hasn’t contributed as much as expected, making Wilson’s presence even more crucial for the team’s playoff hopes.

Looking ahead, Wilson and the Aces face a challenging stretch. They play the Dallas Wings and the Atlanta Dream on the road, at home, and back home before hitting a four-game away stretch. The hope for Hammon and the team is that their superstar will be ready to return soon, especially if she misses the Valkyries clash on Saturday.
