The WNBA regular season hasn’t tipped off yet, but Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is already trending. However, the attention isn’t coming from a box score this time.
LSU guard and rapper Flau’jae Johnson originally shared a clip of her new song titled Help Me on TikTok. The song directly references Clark, with Johnson rapping, “Double C’s on my jacket like I’m Caitlin Clark.” The bar is a double entendre, as Clark’s initials are the same as those of the Chanel brand.
To be clear, the lyrics had no shade, just a cultural nod. Soon after, Clark responded,

Clark reposted the song’s video to her own Instagram Story with a one-word response: “Elite,” and posted nine fire emojis. While the response was short, it clearly signaled the mutual respect between the two athletes.

Johnson, a rising senior, was a third-team All-American last season after averaging 18.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 34 regular-season contests. Johnson signed to Roc Nation as a recording artist in 2024.
Clark and Johnson’s on-court rivalry began in college, when Johnson’s Tigers defeated Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2023 NCAA national championship game. Iowa got its revenge a year later in the Elite Eight, eliminating LSU behind Clark’s 42-point, 12-assist performance.
Clark is preparing for her second WNBA season after becoming one of the league’s largest draws as a rookie. She took home Rookie of the Year honors, averaging 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game. She also led the Fever back to the playoffs. Clark’s popularity has given the league national attention, increased ticket sales, and mainstream media coverage.
Indiana spent the offseason focusing on surrounding Clark with veteran talent and shooting depth on the perimeter to make a deeper playoff run. The team added former All-Stars DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard. The Fever also added Brianna Turner, a former All-Defensive team selection. Indiana opens the season May 17 at home against the Chicago Sky in a nationally televised matchup that pits Clark against former LSU star Angel Reese.
As for Johnson, LSU will look to make another championship run after consecutive losses in the Elite Eight. The Tigers will enter the 2025-26 season with more weapons on the roster to alleviate the pressure on Johnson, with many regarding the incoming recruiting class brought in by head coach Kim Mulkey as one of the strongest in the country.
In a sports landscape where moments often go viral for the wrong reasons, the interaction between Clark and Johnson stood out for being respectful and authentic.
