A heated courtside moment stole the spotlight during an already intense showdown between the Connecticut Sun and Indiana Fever. During the Connecticut Sun’s 85-77 loss to the Indiana Fever, a fan donning a Caitlin Clark jersey in the premium seats found himself walking up the arena stairs after an interaction with Saniya Rivers reportedly went too far.

Why Did Saniya Rivers Want a Fan To Be Ejected During Fever-Sun Clash?
The incident unfolded with 6:34 remaining in the second quarter. After Fever coach Stephanie White used her coach’s challenge, a timeout was called. When Rivers went to inbound the ball following the timeout, the fan made a comment that immediately got her attention.
Rivers didn’t let it slide. She stepped away from the inbound play and had what Indiana Fever reporter Chloe Peterson described as a “passionate conversation with the refs.” Rivers also told her teammates what had happened. The referees called for security, and the fan was escorted out while other fans waved goodbye to him as he walked up the stairs.
Initially, there was confusion about what exactly had transpired. Some reports suggested physical contact had occurred. Suns reporter Terrika Foster-Brasby had reported on X that the fan was escorted out of the arena for “touching” Rivers.

However, Rivers set the record straight after the game. Emily Adams of the Hartford Courant reported Rivers’ clarification and wrote, “Update via Saniya Rivers: The ejected fan did NOT touch her. He made a comment that warranted ejection. Rivers was in great spirits about it, joked that he wasted all that money on a seat just to get tossed.”

Despite the courtside drama, Rivers put together a solid performance in the loss. She finished with eight points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 29 minutes of action. This season, she has been averaging 8.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

For the Fever, Kelsey Mitchell and Natasha Howard led the way. Mitchell had 20 points, three assists, two rebounds, and one steal while Howard starred with an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double while adding two blocks.
Meanwhile, Clark continued to struggle from the field but managed to contribute 14 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. For the Sun, Tina Charles led the charge with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists.
