DiJonai Carrington lasted just four minutes in the Chicago Sky’s 87-81 loss to the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday. The veteran guard, who has been dealing with a left foot injury, had been listed as questionable before receiving clearance to play.
Carrington’s brief appearance quickly caused a buzz on social media.
After a difficult stretch, Sky coach Tyler Marsh kept her on the bench to start the second quarter, with the team later announcing that she would not return because of the injury.

Marsh had already acknowledged before the game that the Sky were monitoring Carrington’s foot. She was downgraded to questionable before eventually being cleared a few hours before tip-off.
Carrington entered with 4:05 left in the first quarter for Natasha Cloud, but things did not go her way. She missed a 13-footer, grabbed a rebound, committed back-to-back turnovers, and picked up a foul.
She then missed a 3-pointer, ending a forgettable four-minute stint.
Once the Sky announced that Carrington would not return, reactions quickly followed.

The references to Caitlin Clark were not random. Carrington’s previous appearance came against the Indiana Fever. She finished that outing with 7 points, 3 rebounds, an assist, and a block in Chicago’s 113-90 loss.
Clark, meanwhile, put together a spectacular performance with 37 points on 13-for-24 shooting, including 8-for-12 from 3-point range, along with 10 assists and 3 rebounds.
That performance gave some fans plenty of ammunition to bring Clark back into the conversation after Carrington’s latest setback.
With the Sky already out of postseason contention, some supporters are now calling for the team to shut down Carrington rather than risk worsening her foot issue.

A self-proclaimed movie and sports expert appeared at a loss for words and used a GIF to express his thoughts on Carrington’s injury.
The 28-year-old guard has dealt with recurring problems in her left foot. She suffered a left mid-foot sprain while with the Minnesota Lynx last year, underwent surgery, and missed Chicago’s first 27 games of the season while recovering.
She has now been limited to 11 games because of the nagging issue.
For Carrington and the Sky, the immediate priority is simple: make sure the injury does not become something bigger. With the postseason already out of reach, there is little reason to rush her back.
