‘Hard To Watch,’ ‘She Really Got Issues’ — Caitlin Clark Faces Fierce Backlash After ‘Real-Life Crash Out’ vs. Valkyries

Caitlin Clark's heated moment vs. the Valkyries sparks fierce backlash and widespread debate across the WNBA world.

Caitlin Clark yelled at referee Gerda Gatling in the second quarter of the Indiana Fever’s home showdown against the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday. The Fever point guard was incensed after the official refused to call a foul following a closely contested layup against Valkyries center Kiah Stokes.

After Fever teammate Aliyah Boston was whistled for a foul on the next play, Clark hurled a few expletives at the referee, sparking strong reactions from the WNBA world.

Caitlin Clark Faces Major Criticism Following Heated Moment Against Valkyries

Clark went up for a layup against the 6-foot-3 Stokes and fell after contact. The three-time All-Star furiously complained to Gatling before limping back on defense.

When Boston was assessed a foul for what appeared to be minimal contact against Valkyries guard Veronica Burton, Clark exploded.

Clark’s emotional outburst garnered fierce scrutiny from several WNBA observers on X.

”Truthfully…. Caitlin Clark is hard to watch,” NFL insider Dan Dakich tweeted.

“Aye, she really got issues lol. A real-life crash-out. It’s her, Luka [Dončić], and Draymond [Green] in a class of their own, lol,” content creator Eddie Gonzalez added.

“Caitlin Cult, this is indefensible. The Nutty Protester is a problem,” podcaster and sports journalist Jason Whitlock wrote, not holding back.

OutKick’s Jon Root, who has often defended Clark, conceded, “Caitlin Clark is broken mentally and physically. … Mentally, she’s fragile. No excuse to crash out on a ref like she did tonight.”

“Caitlin Clark back to doing what she does: throwing a tantrum and whining at the refs,” another X user reacted.

The Athletic’s James Boyd shared a clip of Clark explaining her fiery reaction during her postgame interview.

”I got kneed in the right quad, like, that hurts. The refs can’t miss that,” Clark said. “And then, I have to play with a contusion on my leg for the rest of the game, which is ridiculous. Can’t miss calls like that.”

The 24-year-old superstar also shared that Gatling told her that there was no foul because she initiated the contact. Clark pushed back, emphasizing that she was hit in the leg and got knocked over.

When Clark whines and complains, the WNBA community never fails to notice. The inevitable backlash came following another emotional meltdown.

Clark struggled mightily in Indiana’s 88-75 loss to the Valkyries. Still on a minutes restriction due to a lingering back problem, which flared up again after the play against Stokes, she finished with 13 points on 4-for-14 shooting, including 1-for-8 from deep.

The Fever phenom and her team have a chance to redeem themselves on Friday when they host the Seattle Storm.
