Breanna Stewart Issues Hilarious Warning to Liberty Teammate Sabrina Ionescu Ahead of WNBA All-Star Game

New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart hilariously warns teammate Sabrina Ionescu as they prepare to lock horns in the WNBA All-Star game.

The friendly fire between New York Liberty teammates Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu is about to get real. With the WNBA All-Star Game set for Saturday night in Indianapolis, these championship teammates will find themselves on opposite sides of the court for the first time since winning a title together.

What Did Breanna Stewart Say About Facing Sabrina Ionescu in the All-Star Game?

Stewart didn’t mince words when discussing her game plan for facing her teammate. Following the Liberty’s dominant 98-77 victory over the Indiana Fever on Wednesday night, Stewart recently delivered a playful but pointed warning to Ionescu about what’s coming her way.

“Yeah, I’m gonna trap her. Where is she? Full-court press on Sab in the All-Star Game,” Stewart revealed during her post-game interview. The comment drew laughs, but anyone who knows Stewart’s competitive nature understands she’s only half-joking.

The timing of Stewart’s warning came after she dominated the Fever with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Meanwhile, Ionescu contributed 15 points and nine assists to the Liberty’s convincing win over Indiana, which played without their star guard, Caitlin Clark.

How Will Caitlin Clark’s Injury Impact the All-Star Weekend?

Clark’s absence from Wednesday night’s game highlights a bigger concern heading into All-Star weekend. The Indiana Fever star battled various injuries throughout the 2024-25 season but still managed to make 40 appearances in the Indiana Fever’s iconic 20-20 season performance.

“The biggest thing is just trying to keep her in good spirits. Had a lot of setbacks with all these little injuries, and we just have to take it one day at a time.” Fever Head Coach Stephanie White revealed, however, there has been no update on her All-Star participation.

Clark’s potential absence would be a significant blow to Team Clark, the squad she was selected to captain. The recently crowned ESPY WNBA Player of the Year was set to make her first appearance in the WNBA’s three-point contest, adding another layer of intrigue to the weekend’s festivities.

What Makes the Three-Point Contest So Compelling?

Even if Clark manages to compete, she’ll face stiff competition from Ionescu, who holds the record for the most shots made in three-point competition history with 37 points. That performance has set the bar incredibly high for anyone hoping to challenge her supremacy from beyond the arc.

The three-point contest, scheduled for Friday, will feature Clark and Ionescu alongside Sonia Citron from the Washington Mystics, Allisha Gray from the Atlanta Dream, and Kelsey Plum from the Los Angeles Sparks. This talented field should provide plenty of fireworks before the main event on Saturday.

Additionally, the All-Star Game itself carries extra significance for both Liberty stars. Stewart is making her seventh All-Star appearance, while Ionescu is making her fourth. Both players are coming off career-defining performances this season, with Ionescu averaging 18.7 points through 20 games, her sixth in the league.

Ionescu has also contributed 5.5 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game, and averages 2.5 made three-pointers per game. Her well-rounded production has been crucial to Liberty’s success this season.

Meanwhile, Stewart, a two-time league MVP, has hit her stride heading into All-Star weekend. Her dominant performance against the Fever serves as a perfect tune-up for what promises to be a competitive showcase in Indianapolis.

The clash between these two teammates, who became temporary rivals, looks to be the standout storyline heading into this weekend’s festivities. After winning a WNBA title together, Stewart and Ionescu will now test their skills against each other on the league’s biggest stage.
