‘Pressure Makes Diamonds, Baby’ — Angel Reese Puts WNBA on Notice With Bold Declaration

Angel Reese has her eyes on the ultimate WNBA glory with the Atlanta Dream, declaring that diamonds are made only under pressure.

Angel Reese has never been the one to shy away from setting high expectations for herself, and it seems like the transition to a new franchise has only amplified that hunger. In the first week of April 2026, the Chicago Sky made headlines after trading Reese to the Atlanta Dream due to growing organizational friction and public tension.

The move placed her squarely at the heart of the Dream’s postseason aspirations, and the young star is embracing every bit of that pressure without flinching as the race to the 2026 playoffs intensifies.

Angel Reese Aims for WNBA Championship Glory With Atlanta Dream

The Sky finished last in the Eastern Conference with a 10-34 record and failed to qualify for the playoffs for a second consecutive season. Refusing to accept this losing culture, Angel Reese publicly called out the franchise, criticizing its lack of direction and roster limitations. This led to a half-game suspension late in the 2025 season.

After the trade to Atlanta, the 24-year-old is looking for a fresh start with the Dream and is ready to turn the page on a difficult year.

In a recent sit-down interview with ESPN’s Monica McNutt, the Dream star forward made her goal crystal clear. When asked about her ambitions in her new home, Reese did not hesitate to lay out her championship standard for the franchise.

“Playoffs and championship,” said Reese. “I don’t know about anything else…I came here to win a championship.”

When pressed on whether those expectations created added pressure, her answer was brief: “No. Pressure make diamonds, baby.”

This fearless mindset is backing up elite production on the floor. This season, the three-time All-Star is averaging 15.6 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.8 steals over 30.5 minutes per game while shooting 42.9% from the field and 73.7% from the free-throw line.

Through 26 games, she has logged 18 double-doubles, taking her career total to 67 after recording 23 last year.

The WNBA is just coming out of its All-Star break and has started the second half of the regular season, featuring an August 2 trade deadline, a 17-day pause for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, and an intense race for the postseason spots.

Reese’s dominance in the paint and defensive hustle give Atlanta elite rebounding and the spark needed to shift the game’s momentum, keeping the team firmly in postseason contention.

The Dream is currently trailing the Eastern Conference leaders, the Indiana Fever, with a 17-10 record. Riding a four-game winning streak, they will host the Seattle Storm for their next match on July 31.
