Four-time Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs remains unsigned this offseason as one of the top available players yet to find a home for the 2026 NFL season.
While Diggs certainly has the talent to be a starter on an NFL team this coming season, numerous factors go into why he hasn’t signed yet.
The former All-Pro has shown he can compete with the best players in the league when he’s at his best, but he also comes with quite a risk.
Why Stefon Diggs Remains Unsigned for the 2026 NFL Season
Diggs was drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings and has carved out a very impressive 11-year career in the league.
It took the veteran receiver four years to get his first 1,000-yard season, but he never had fewer than 720 receiving yards during those first three years.
Then, Diggs put together six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, including four Pro Bowls and an All-Pro season in which he led the NFL in targets, receptions, and yards.
The 11-year veteran has been extremely durable throughout his career, not missing much time until his torn ACL in 2024, which forced him to miss the final nine games of the season.

If you take out his shortened 2024 season, Diggs has recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in seven straight seasons.
He ranked fourth in the NFL in PFSN’s WR Impact metric last season, behind only Puka Nacua, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and George Pickens.
Those are all the reasons why it doesn’t make sense that Diggs has not signed with a team for the 2026 season. However, there’s more to the story.
The veteran is now 32 years old and will turn 33 during the season. He had a strong season recovering from his torn ACL with over 1,000 receiving yards, but that will always be a concern at his age now.

The other part is Diggs’ off-the-field issues.
The receiver has had his fair share of legal issues, most recently with the assault charges he faced for being accused of strangulation.
Diggs was not found guilty during the trial, and the NFL did a subsequent investigation and cleared him to play.
However, that doesn’t mean NFL teams are going to be willing to sign him to their teams still.
Diggs is an extremely talented player, but the baggage he brings with him, along with his growing age, could mean teams are hesitant to sign him.
An opening for the receiver could come if a star receiver or WR2 gets injured before the season begins, or, as offseason activities come to an end, teams may decide his talent is worth the add to their roster.
The other piece to the puzzle is Diggs could know the talent he possesses, know that he’s on the back end of his career, and be waiting for the right contending team to reach out.
The veteran receiver played in the Super Bowl last season, and that’s certainly a goal of his before retirement, so he could be waiting for a particular team in mind to sign with.
