The highest-graded quarterback in the NFL might surprise you. He’s someone who entered the season much-maligned and considered an afterthought, as he was signed to presumably be a backup to a young, talented player that a team invested significant draft capital in.
He is a former first-rounder who was given a big contract after one good year with his previous team but then suffered a series of injuries that robbed him of his effectiveness and, ultimately, his starting job.
However, he ended up in a battle for the starting job in training camp, won the job, and has started the season off strong with not just a 2-0 record but also a ranking at the top of PFSN’s QBi grading system.
Wait… Who Is at the Top of PFSN’s QBi?
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones has surprisingly gotten off to one of the hottest starts in the NFL. So far, Jones has posted a +0.35 EPA per dropback, completed 71.4% of his passes, has a 111.1 passer rating, and accounted for five total touchdowns, making him PFSN’s No.1 graded quarterback.

This is all happening while Jones is on a one-year, $14 million contract Jones signed with the Colts in the offseason.
What’s even more amazing is that while there were legitimate concerns about his play and decision-making, he was also coming off a series of serious injuries, including a neck injury in 2021 and a torn ACL in 2023, making him more hesitant to run outside of the pocket by the time he entered 2024.
His last two years with the New York Giants were abysmal. He played in just 16 games and had a 3-13 record while throwing for 2,797 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. Those numbers, along with his appearing to be hesitant in the pocket and indecisive on his throws, led a lot of observers to call him a bust.

However, Jones is only 28 years old and still possesses plenty of talent. Even though he has only one season in which he’s thrown as many as 24 touchdowns (his rookie season in 2019), he doesn’t seem to be past his prime or incapable of a resurrection.
That said, one of Jones’ performances has come against the Miami Dolphins, one of the PFSN’s lowest-ranked teams in its power rankings (28.2). Jones also showed well against the Denver Broncos, ranked 12th and having one of the league’s best defenses, by completing 23 of 34 passes for 316 yards with a touchdown in their wild 29-28 win.
Jones and the Colts will take their newfound offense on the road this week, facing the AFC South rival Tennessee Titans in Nashville on Sunday, September 28, at 1:00 p.m. ET on local CBS affliates.
