Where Will Tyler Boyd Sign? 3 Best Landing Spots for the Ex-Bengals WR After the NFL Draft

At 30 years old, nine-year veteran Tyler Boyd still represents a solid third option in an NFL receiver room. And after spending the 2024 season with the Tennessee Titans, Boyd is on the lookout for a new team.

Many teams addressed their receiver needs early in free agency, while some used the draft to fill vacancies. Some, though, could still use some help in the passing game, with Boyd sure to find himself on a roster come September.

Three Potential Landing Spots for Free Agent Tyler Boyd

Boyd won’t be taking the top off any NFL defenses in 2025, nor will he be expecting to line up in two-receiver sets. What he will do, though, is provide his new quarterback with a reliable option when he needs it.

In this article, we examine three potential landing spots for the receiver as rosters begin to take shape across the league.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys will likely be linked with every wide receiver available between now and September. The team lacks a great deal of depth behind superstar CeeDee Lamb, who has been the main focal point of the Cowboys’ offense since the team traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns in 2022.

The team has some speedy playmakers in Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin, but could use a consistent target for Dak Prescott. Boyd has caught at least 68.4% of his targets in each of the last five seasons. That number would have bettered any Cowboys receiver with over 14 targets, not named Lamb, in any of the last three years.

The addition of Boyd wouldn’t raise the ceiling of this Cowboys offense, but it could support its floor after a disappointing 2024 season.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers made the aggressive move to trade for Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf during the offseason. The team desperately needed some help in the receiving game and sent a second-round pick to get their guy. With Metcalf and George Pickens manning the perimeters, though, the team could use a third receiver.

Pat Freiermuth is the obvious third target on the Steelers’ offense, but that offense has been accused of growing stale in recent years. While Metcalf and Pickens are making big plays down the field, Boyd could offer a short/intermediate option to capitalize on any space created.

The Steelers do have Calvin Austin III and have yet to get a fully healthy Roman Wilson on the field. Wilson is a candidate to break out in 2025 after an injury-ravaged rookie year, but Boyd would take the pressure off of both the player and the team.

After eight seasons in the AFC North with the Cincinnati Bengals, Boyd would not only be going back to his old conference, but to the city in which he attended university.

Atlanta Falcons

Similarly to the Steelers, the Atlanta Falcons already have their two starting receivers and a pass-catching tight end. Also, like the Steelers, they have very little beyond that. Ray-Ray McCloud performed admirably when called upon in 2024, but an injury would leave the team very light at receiver.

Boyd will be competing for a WR3 role wherever he lands, with Atlanta’s receiver depth chart as inviting as any. All of Atlanta’s draft picks were spent on defense, except seventh-round tackle Jack Nelson. If the team wants to add to its receiver corps without breaking the bank, the eight-year Bengal would be a solid option.
