Details on Sawyer Robertson’s Combine

At the NFL Combine, QBs will throw all types of routes: slants, out routes, deep go balls, quarterbacks do it all, and expect Robertson to have a lot of variety in the types of throws that he will have.

According to Ryan Miller of the Democrat & Chronicle, “On-field workouts for quarterbacks..begin at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, Feb. 28.”

However, Miller also notes that quarterbacks “will throw during positional drills following the 40-yard dash and testing portions of the workout,” which means it could be around 2 pm ET or even later, when Robertson starts throwing.

Robertson could have a lot to gain from the combine. He dazzled Big 12 teams in college with his strong arm. This past season at Baylor, he recorded 306.8 passing yards per game and ranked 43rd on PFSN’s College Football QB Metrics.

In a league where strong-armed QBs have success, with Drake Maye going to the Super Bowl, Matthew Stafford winning MVP, or Sam Darnold winning the Super Bowl, Robertson’s throwing will drastically impact his draft value.

In a draft class without consensus QB 3, this is the time for prospects to not only show what they have but also where they can improve. One area where Robertson could improve his passing game is his accuracy, which was a modest 60% on the season as a whole.

This puts him below mid-round QBs such as LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier (67.4%) and Clemson’s Cade Klubnik (65.6%).

Where Could Robertson Land?

So, if things go well for the Baylor QB, what are some destinations that he could be great in? Well, with his great arm, he could be a good pickup for some teams in the North, such as the Cleveland Browns or Pittsburgh Steelers.

Out of those two, the Steelers could be a very cool fit. If Aaron Rodgers returns for another season, he could be a great mentor to Robertson, teaching him the ropes. If the four-time NFL MVP does not return, it could be a competition between second-year QB Will Howard and Robertson.

With Robertson’s strong arm, he could link up very well with receiver D.K. Metcalf. According to PFSN’s WR Impact Metric, Metcalf ranked 25th out of 100th for yards per target at 8.6. So, Robertson and Metcalf could make magic down the field.

If Robertson’s combine goes so-so or meh, teams could still fall in love with the physical and take him as a developmental backup. The Los Angeles Rams are a common team for this occasion, but the Buffalo Bills are also a viable option.

While the Bills are not moving on from Josh Allen anytime soon, Robertson could learn and serve as his backup. Then, once his rookie contract is up, go to a different team

Overall, there is a lot of fun potential with Robertson, and his combine could decide his NFL future
