After taking their time, the Cleveland Browns have solidified their next head coach: Todd Monken. Since 2023, Monken has been part of the Baltimore Ravens coaching staff as the OC, but once HC John Harbaugh was fired, Monken was also out of a job.
With Harbaugh going to the New York Giants as the next HC, a new OC also needed to be hired, and Monken was a top name for that job.
New York Giants Must Pivot in Their OC Search
The existing relationship and previous success (ranked 6th in 2023 and 2nd in 2024 among all NFL offenses per PFSN’s Offensive Impact Metric) made Monken becoming the Giants’ next OC too much sense.
Going even further, according to NFL reporter Connor Hughes, the hire would have happened if the Browns had gone with a different candidate.
Monken was set to be the #Giants OC had this gone another direction. They’ll need to go elsewhere now https://t.co/8NyWZWuQ1r

Again, with Harbaugh’s successful history with Monken, there was no doubt he was a top candidate for the OC position in New York, but obviously, that didn’t happen. Now, the Giants have to move on to other candidates.
Potential Options for the Giants OC Search
So far, besides Monken, the Giants have interviewed Willie Taggart, who was on the Ravens’ offensive staff in 2023, and former Miami Dolphins WR coach Robert Prince, who was just recently hired by the Atlanta Falcons. Taggart was actually recently hired by the Giants, but not as OC.
The other name is Davis Webb, whom the Giants requested for an interview. Webb was drafted by the Giants as a third-round pick in 2017, was waived after one year, and went to the New York Jets. After one year there, Webb was cut in 2019, and after signed with the Buffalo Bills. On and off the practice squad, the QB stayed in Buffalo until 2021, when he returned to the Giants for the final year of his career.
Clearly, he loves New York.
As a coach, Webb has had much more success. In 2023, he was hired by the Denver Broncos as a QBs coach, and in 2025, he was promoted to passing game coordinator. Webb has been highly regarded around the league, and it seems his time to be an OC is near. One reason is QB development, as seen with Bo Nix throughout his first two years. With the Giants having their own young QB, Jaxson Dart, hiring Webb would make a lot of sense.
Another potential option is former Ole Miss OC and QB Coach Charlie Weis Jr., given his time coaching Dartmouth in college. This is a far-fetched idea because Weis Jr. just followed HC Lane Kiffin to LSU, but with the connections to Dart, it’s still an option.
