Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III Ruled Out of Week 16 Clash vs. Packers

The Bears are preparing for what is arguably their most important game of the season against the Packers. A win would help them retain control of the NFC North, while a loss could see Green Bay take over the division lead.

Heading into this pivotal matchup, quarterback Caleb Williams’ squad is dealing with significant injury concerns, including those involving wide receivers Odunze and Burden. Both players have officially been ruled out for the Week 16 game.

Burden and Odunze are vital pieces of the Bears’ offense, posting PFSN WR Impact scores of 81.3 and 76.5, respectively. Their absence is expected to have a noticeable impact on the game plan.

Odunze, who has been dealing with a recurring foot injury, will miss his third straight game. He currently leads the team in receiving with 44 catches for 661 yards.

Meanwhile, Burden suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter of last week’s game against the Cleveland Browns. Before exiting, he led the Bears with six catches for 84 yards.

Burden had a slow start to the season, recording just 171 receiving yards in his first seven games, which included a 101-yard outing against the Dallas Cowboys. However, he picked up his performance afterward, tallying 300 receiving yards over his last six games.

The Bears are now evaluating their remaining options at wide receiver. Currently, four healthy receivers remain on the roster: DJ Moore, Olamide Zaccheaus, Devin Duvernay, and Jahdae Walker. When head coach Ben Johnson was asked about the team’s depth at the position, he expressed confidence in the group:

“I’ve been really pleased with that room. We’ve got some young guys in there that we were really impressed with throughout training camp that ended up being on the practice squad. If called upon, they’ve done a great job soaking the offense in over the course of the season so far and being involved.”

In addition to the wide receiver injuries, linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga has also been ruled out for Week 16. With several key players sidelined, it will be interesting to see how the Bears perform in this high-stakes matchup against the Packers and who sits at the top of the NFC North.
