The Houston Texans selected Dameon Pierce in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent three full years with the franchise before departing during the 2025 season. He is now with a new team ahead of Week 14 when his former one plays on Sunday Night Football.
Where is Dameon Pierce Now?
Pierce showed plenty of promise early in his career with the Texans, but eventually lost his role in their offense. His best year was his rookie season, and he appeared to have a bright outlook; however, the team released him during the 2025 season.
He now plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, and on Sunday Night Football in Week 14, he will face off against his former team. He has yet to record a carry for his new one, but he may apparently be allowed to contribute in this matchup, according to special teams coordinator Dave Toub.
“He’s been hitting some kick returns for us … He’s just getting his feet wet with everything … I’m sure he wants to play badly. I haven’t talked to him about it, but I can only imagine that he wants to play. It’s just a matter of learning the offense,” said Toub.
Pierce has remained on the Chiefs’ practice squad this year, but it sounds as though he has a chance to contribute as a returner for their special teams. He has yet to be a part of their offensive game plan, and according to Toub, this seems unlikely to change anytime soon.
The Chiefs are relatively deep at running back, with Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco handling most of the workload. Hunt currently ranks 18th among all running backs in PFSN’s Impact Rankings for this year, while Pacheco comes in at 41st so far. Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Brashard Smith have also received carries out of their backfield throughout the season.
Pierce doesn’t appear close to making his debut as a running back for the Chiefs, despite his promising production with the Texans earlier in his career. His impressive rookie season included 250 touches for 1,104 scrimmage yards and five total touchdowns. He totaled just 838 yards and four touchdowns in three-plus years since then.
The Texans selected another rookie running back in 2025 when they picked Woody Marks, who has also shown promise as a potential long-term option for them. He has been working in tandem with veteran Nick Chubb, but Marks has been getting the bulk of the touches lately.
