Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. is missing action due to an injury he suffered against the Dallas Cowboys. Denver is making a strong push to stay ahead in the AFC West, and head coach Sean Payton would want as many weapons as possible available for quarterback Bo Nix to work with.
Mims has become a valuable deep threat behind Courtland Sutton, and his health plays an impactful role in Payton’s offense.
When Will Broncos WR Marvin Mims Jr. Play Again?
Mims has been ruled out for Denver’s Thursday Night Football showdown with the Las Vegas Raiders. The third-year receiver found himself in concussion protocol after the Broncos’ 44-24 win over the Cowboys in Week 8. He left the game late after recording 18 rushing yards on three carries on the day.
He failed to clear the concussion protocol ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the Houston Texans and missed the game. Pat Bryant filled in for Mims behind Sutton and Troy Franklin.
The weekend’s rest didn’t serve up good news for their Week 10 primetime game against the Raiders. Mims missed practice again on Monday and logged a limited session on Tuesday. However, he trended in the wrong direction. He ended up being ruled out for Thursday Night Football on Wednesday, leaving Bryant in line to see increased action again.
Week 11 versus the Kansas City Chiefs will provide the third-year pro with another chance to return and help Denver stay ahead in the division. He’s been a valuable weapon at times this season, having recorded 22 receptions for 234 yards and one touchdown across the eight games he’s played in.
If he can return as soon as possible, he could log a similar stat line as last year, when he put up 39 catches for 503 yards and six scores.
Payton has utilized him on several occasions in the run game as well. On seven carries this campaign, he logged 54 yards and a touchdown, averaging 7.7 yards per carry.
Any help to stay ahead in the AFC West would be welcome, as two of the Broncos’ rivals are sitting on winning records. With Denver at 7-2, the LA Chargers are closely behind at 6-3. Jim Harbaugh’s Bolts are primed to make another playoff appearance this season, with quarterback Justin Herbert running a tight offense in LA.
Following the Chargers are the 5-4 Chiefs, who can never be ruled out with quarterback Patrick Mahomes at the helm, steering head coach Andy Reid’s offense.
