It’s been over two weeks since Mississippi teen Nolan Wells went missing after a July 4 boating trip with his friends. His family has rightfully been seeking answers ever since. Now, Stephen A. Smith is joining a loud community demanding immediate action.
While Wells’ body has since been found, too many details are still missing from the picture. How did he go missing? Why was his cell phone later found at a friend’s residence? Why are there so many conflicting reports? These are just the tip of the iceberg.
Stephen A. Smith Demands Action Following Nolan Wells’ Funeral
Former NFL QB Colin Kaepernick paid for a second autopsy to be done on Wells’ body, set to take place in Washington, D.C., after attorney Ben Crump highlighted trust issues within the state of Mississippi’s investigation.
Meanwhile, Wells’ family held his funeral on Monday, July 20. After the ceremony was complete, Smith, the popular ESPN sports personality, used his X social media platform to send his heart out to Wells’ “family and loved ones.”
However, he also tapped into his 6.1 million followers on X to share his message, pleading for investigators to “find out what happened” to the 18-year-old.
“This is a very sad day,” Smith said. “Nolan Wells was laid to rest today. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. But it ain’t over. We need to find out what happened to that young man.”

As Smith notes, this is far from over. Being that Wells was out with several others, one would think someone knows something and hasn’t come forward yet.

The hope is that eventually fresh information comes along, leading to new breakthroughs in a case that the public has long been seeking answers to. After weeks mired in turmoil, it’s about time that the Wells family got the full story, rather than bits and pieces at a time.
Until justice is served, more people like Smith will continue to come forward and demand action because there are still far too many questions that need answers.
Hopefully, recent developments, like the second autopsy, help bring clarity to a tragic situation that’s understandably caused widespread unrest around the world.
