Vita Vea is not going anywhere. He’s spent his entire career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will stay in pewter for the time being.
After Vea requested a trade earlier in training camp, a potential exit was in the cards. But Vea and Tampa Bay were able to reach an agreement on a contract to keep Vea around through the 2027 season. Buccaneers fans can take a breath as the saga is over, but not everyone is pleased with the outcome.
Buccaneers World Reacts to $30M Vita Vea Extension
Vea wanted to be paid what he thought he deserved, and he got it. Vea got himself a one-year, $30 million extension from Tampa Bay that will go through the 2027 season.

While the extension is worth one year and $30 million, some of the new money will be tacked on to the $18 million that Vea was slated to earn in the 2026 season. According to Buccaneers insider Rick Stroud, Vea will earn an additional $6 million, bringing his 2026 total to $24 million. He will earn that same amount for the 2027 season.
Vea is dominant in the trenches, but as he gets older, the price gets hefty. One Buccaneers fan isn’t too thrilled with Tampa Bay giving in to Vea’s demands.
“What a waste of time. I blame this on [Ndamukong] Suh and Vita. Being smart about business requires knowing the market. Vita is good. But his asset loss is in his age. It is a part of the game. Vita better play his ass off. He acted like he needed a three year deal when we all know: NO!” said one fan.

It’s safe to say that the Buccaneers faithful aren’t in harmony over this extension, with some pumped to see the big man back in the Tampa Bay trenches.
“So happy!! He’s so important to this defense,” said one fan.
Whether Buccaneers fans love it or hate it, Vea is here to stay for the next two seasons, and he will be thrilled with his new contract.
“Wow. Vita played his cards perfectly. Big fella got PAID! Good for him, good on the Bucs for shelling out that deserved cash since this is his last season with Tampa,” said one fan.

One fan even admitted they were wrong to think a trade request was the wrong move, as Vea ended up getting what he wanted.

“Well I think he made the right call to get a deal done. I thought a hold out was not good advice. He wanted his money and he got it. Maybe can’t knock him too much,” said one fan.
The Buccaneers fans aren’t forgetting what happened last season, though. Their late-season collapse has left a bad taste in many mouths, and the pressure is on the coaching staff, front office, and the owners. Although the owners forked up the money for Vea, some fans aren’t letting them off the hook.
“This is the owners giving [Todd] Bowles no excuses. Still a prove it year for players and coaches. Vea included,” said one fan.

There needs to be progress for the Buccaneers. Winning the division in a weak NFC South might not cut it for the Buccaneers faithful after missing the playoffs last year, as they’ve experienced winning the division and getting bounced quickly from the playoffs. They’re waiting for a breakthrough and getting impatient with this post-Tom Brady crew. It’s now or never for Tampa Bay, and Vea will have to be a big part of this team’s success with his new extension.
