Vikings Predicted To Trade for Super Bowl-Winning QB After Carson Wentz’s Injury

As the Carson Wentz experiment seems to have run its course in Minnesota, the Vikings are now predicted to trade for another quarterback to assist rookie J.J. McCarthy.

Wentz suffered a season-ending shoulder injury that the QB allegedly played through in the Vikings’ 37-10 loss on Thursday Night a week ago. As the former Super Bowl champion appeared to be feeling the effects of the injury during the loss, it was decided that he would undergo surgery and be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Now, as McCarthy returns from an injury of his own, the Vikings may add another veteran gunslinger to improve the club’s depth.

Young Minnesota QB Room Looks To Add Experience Amid Push for .500 Record

Minnesota currently has two rookie quarterbacks on their roster after the decision to end Wentz’s season. McCarthy has played eight quarters of NFL football and been injury-prone, stunting the former 10th overall pick’s projection.

Along with the Michigan product, Max Brosmer signed as an undrafted free agent and has thrown just eight passes in his young NFL career. With the inexperience and unpredictability of McCarthy’s health, the Vikings brass could be looking to add another piece.

USA Today’s Jacob Camenker predicts that Minnesota will eye up another ex-Super Bowl champ in 36-year-old Russell Wilson. While Wilson would be moving from one backup role to another, Camenker believes it makes sense.

“It wouldn’t be to install him as a starter, but it would provide McCarthy with a veteran sounding board as he looks to establish himself as Minnesota’s quarterback of the future.
“The Giants should be willing to part with Wilson on the cheap, and the Vikings would only have to take on a prorated version of the 36-year-old quarterback’s $2 million salary for the 2025 season.”

With Wilson’s name clearly swirling around the rumor mill, another media outlet believes landing in Minnesota makes sense for the 5’11” QB.

Currently sitting at 3-4, does it make sense for the Vikings to bring on the veteran field general?

Is Wilson’s Uneventful NYG Tenure Worth an Addition on Vikings’ Roster?

Coming into the season, Wilson was announced as the New York Giants’ starting quarterback. After three games and three losses, the G-Men elected to turn to rookie QB Jaxson Dart. Since the switch, the 2025 25th overall pick has run with the opportunity, seemingly leaving Wilson in the dust.

Using PFSN’s QB Impact metric, Wilson ranks 33rd out of 37 eligible ball throwers. His 62.3 rating results in a D- grade and ranks below struggling quarterbacks Justin Fields, Spencer Rattler, and Geno Smith.

Whether or not Wilson gets another chance to start in the NFL, there is no denying his leadership and extensive knowledge of crucial game moments. With McCarthy and Brosmer being as young as they are, Wilson mentoring the two could be the best case for the Vikings.

With the trade deadline just four days away, will Minnesota take the shot and attempt to land the 14th-year pro?
