‘That Is Unfortunate’ — Eagles Legend Donovan McNabb Singles Out 1 Major Issue for Jalen Hurts Under Center

The Philadelphia Eagles have had a tumultuous offseason thanks to the saga surrounding Jalen Hurts and the internal friction over his unwillingness to adjust as a player. Also, the team has been swarmed by A.J. Brown’s unhappiness. Brown, who wants to be traded and likely will be, has been a key topic of conversation around the team. Yet, the Eagles still have high expectations for their 2026 season.

But one issue that could arise for Hurts is having to work with a new offensive coordinator. Heading into 2026, Hurts will have his sixth different offensive coordinator. One former Eagles quarterback thinks that is “unfortunate” for Hurts.

Donovan McNabb Highlights Jalen Hurts’ Offensive Coordinator Instability as Key Concern

The Eagles hired offensive coordinator Sean Mannion from the Green Bay Packers this offseason. He has never been an offensive coordinator before, or even called plays in the NFL, yet he is a former quarterback, and many people around the league speak highly of him.

Former Eagles QB Donovan McNabb joined Kay Adams on Up& Adams to discuss the upcoming season. He said, “The unfortunate part is that Jalen has had so many coordinators in the early part of his career, that is unfortunate.”

Hurts will have to learn a new offense this offseason, and he will likely have to do it without A.J. Brown. The Eagles did add wide receiver Makai Lemon in the first round, but he is not Brown, and their passing game will likely struggle without the veteran.

The offensive scheme will likely see a huge shift under Mannion, but it remains to be seen what that will look like.

One spot where Hurts must improve is over the middle of the field, which is somewhere his new receiving corps likes to operate. According to Dataroma, Hurts has one of the lowest rates of throws over the middle of the field in the NFL over the past two seasons.

This could end up being a make-or-break season for Hurts if the Eagles ask him to do more than he has shown over his career.

According to the PFSN Quarterback Impact Metrics, he posted a 78.3 score and a C+ grade in the 2025 season, underscoring the need for improvement.

The Eagles will be one of the more interesting teams to watch on offense in 2026. No one knows what to expect, and if they are not much better than we saw last season, they could be in serious trouble.
