The Miami Dolphins are entering some choppy waters when it comes to talented wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Hill has made a name for himself both on and off the field while with the team. He’s a sizable target for Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Yet the rumor mill is churning about Hill as potential trade bait for Miami. Some financial obligations might force Miami’s hand in finding a worthwhile trade partner in the NFL.
What Are the Trade Rumors Around Tyreek Hill?
On Sunday, ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler offered some updated news on the matter. Chris Kouffman, co-host of the “3 Yards Per Carry” podcast that focuses on the Dolphins, shared Fowler’s insights into the Hill situation on X.
“From @JFowlerESPN on Tyreek Hill: He’s due a $15.85 mil option bonus 8/31,” Kouffman wrote. “Only natural for teams to keep an eye on situation in case Miami would rather unload him at a fire sale price so as not pay it, or agree to pay it themselves in exchange for a more valuable draft pick.”

As for more details on potentially trading Hill, Fowler’s extended comments were included in the post. Fowler, in an appearance on ESPN’s “SportsCenter,” said, “I have talked to a few teams who are at least monitoring his future a little bit. Could he be a potential trade target?
“Now, I know the Dolphins earlier this summer were telling teams, ‘No, we’re not trading Tyreek Hill,'” Fowler said. “But they just wonder, is he going to be available? It could be wishful thinking, maybe they want him to be available.”
What Has Hill Done on the Field?
Hill played for the Kansas City Chiefs for six seasons before spending the next three with Miami. He’s an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and a four-time All-Pro as a kick returner and wide receiver. He has 798 career receptions for 11,098 yards and 82 touchdowns, and he has averaged 13.9 yards per catch in his career.
In 2023, Hill put up career numbers with the Dolphins. He had 119 catches, matching his 2022 total, but amassed 1,799 receiving yards, a career high. Hill also set career highs in yards per game (112.4) and touchdowns (13). Hill did not play in the Dolphins’ NFL preseason opener against the Chicago Bears due to an oblique injury.
Hill also has a checkered past off the field, ranging from being arrested on domestic violence charges against his then-pregnant girlfriend in college to being detained by police outside Hard Rock Stadium in Miami for a driving violation
Should the Dolphins send “Cheetah” to another NFL team, they will need to make sure Tagovailoa has another go-to target in the Miami offense.
