The Miami Dolphins were having a solid start to their Week 4 Monday Night game, but on a routine pass in the second half, All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill suffered a gruesome injury to his left leg and was carted off the field.
What Happened to Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill?
On the first drive of the second half, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hit Hill on a ten-yard out to the sideline. When defensive back Malachi Moore took Hill down at the sideline, Hill’s knee buckled and twisted inwards with his left foot pointing towards his right leg.
This is upsetting as the Dolphins were off to a hot start. At the time of the injury, Tua Tagovailoa was 6/6 when throwing to Tyreek Hill and 6/10 to everyone else. The 31-year-old has only sat out one game in 3+ seasons with the Dolphins, thus making this injury potentially difficult for Miami to navigate.
Prayers to Tyreek Hill. His leg is bent the completely wrong way.
This is really, really bad 🙏🙏
He will definitely be out for the season.
Praying for him and his family. pic.twitter.com/wej2mkWeXz

Miami wasted no time announcing what seemed like the inevitable: Hill was ruled out with a knee injury and is headed to the hospital for imaging, evaluation, and observation. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Miami suspects Hill dislocated his left knee but is waiting for confirmation after he arrives at the local hospital.

This sure looks like a season-ender for Hill, as he was seen in a wheelchair with a brace on his left leg as he exited the stadium. It’s really unfortunate because rumors of Hill’s demise were greatly exaggerated. While the Dolphins’ offense certainly struggled to start the season, the star receiver still looked like his usual explosive self. He was by no means done.

After the game, Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel confirmed that Hill has indeed dislocated his knee. “Mike McDaniel confirms Tyreek Hill dislocated his knee and will remain in the hospital overnight,” wrote Dolphins reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques. “Said Hill’s upbeat attitude immediately after the injury made a “giant” impact on the team psychologically Hill cracked jokes with his teammates and was “inspiring”.”
On Tuesday, Schefter provided another concerning update on Hill. “In addition to dislocating his knee, Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill also tore multiple ligaments in his knee, including his ACL, per sources,” he wrote. “Hill remains hospitalized and will undergo surgery today.”
NFL insider Ian Rapoport also gave an update on Hill’s potential return timeline. “With surgery today, it’s possible that Tyreek Hill will undergo additional surgeries,” Rapoport said. “There is no guarantee he’ll be ready for 2026. None of his 2026 salary is guaranteed now, but $11M (of $29.9M) becomes fully guaranteed if he’s on the roster in March, plus a $5M roster bonus.”
Hill had our highest single-season WR Impact grade two years ago, with a 98.8 (A+) grade during his record-setting 2023 season. However, the last two years have been a frustrating downturn, and this injury could be a career-altering turn for the 31-year-old.
Hill was off to a strong bounce-back start in 2025, ranking ninth with an 84.3 (B) grade entering Monday night. His removal removes Tua Tagovailoa’s top target and could lead to a release or injury settlement after the season, given that the Cheetah has a $51.9 million cap hit for the 2026 season.
Jaylen Waddle elevates to the WR1 role with Hill done for the season. He’s been largely ineffective to start the season, but the Dolphins will have no choice but to feature him more.
The primary beneficiary will be Malik Washington, who instantly becomes a top waiver wire pickup. He’s already been involved, particularly on gadget plays. Fantasy managers should make it a point to add him and view him as a potential weekly WR4 with upside for more.
