Tyreek Hill’s Agent Explains WR’s Release From Dolphins, Free Agency Market After Major Injuries

Why was star WR Tyreek Hill released by the Dolphins? Find out more about the situation in Miami from the receiver's agent.

A major headline surfaced last week when the Miami Dolphins released star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The speedster was arguably the team’s best receiver in the four years he spent in Florida. While questions about the receiving corps linger, many are also wondering why general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan decided to part ways with the veteran.

Hill’s agent provided answers.

Tyreek Hill Released for 2 Reasons, Says Agent Drew Rosenhaus

Hill has one of the most electric wideouts in the NFL since taking off with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. His elite playmaking ability earned him a $120 million contract with the Dolphins in 2022, reflecting the value he brings to any offense.

However, Miami believes that value has been depleted, as the veteran receiver will soon turn 32 before the 2026 NFL season. Age and cap space played the biggest role in Sullivan cutting Hill, according to the wideout’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

“I talked to Jon-Eric Sullivan, and he was very professional,” Rosenhaus said on “Sports Xtra.” “He spoke to Tyreek. He gave me a call and basically just said, without divulging too much of the Dolphins’ plans, that they do plan on getting younger and they do plan on shedding a quite a few of the bigger salaries. I think there will be other moves down the line.”

In his four years in Miami, Hill started all of the games he played in, recording 340 receptions, 4,733 yards, and 27 touchdowns (99.6 PFSN WR Impact in 2023). Head coach Mike McDaniel also made use of him in the run game, as he totaled 21 carries for 100 yards and 1 score.

“Tyreek handled it very well,” Rosenhaus added. “He’s looking forward to bouncing back next season, and he made a post this week where he said ‘Cheetah’ would be back. Believe me when I tell you, I have one accurate prediction this year — I think he’s gonna come back strong.”

Host Josh Moser also picked the agent’s brain about the early state of the free agent market and whether demand for Hill will be strong.

“I think [the market] will be strong,” Rosenhaus claimed. “You’re getting a guy in Tyreek Hill, when healthy, who’s one of the most dynamic playmakers in NFL history… Without identifying any numbers, I think it’s a little early, and you don’t want to put the cart before the horse. We want Tyreek to get healthy, get back to playing — we’ll have a better idea of what the economics are gonna look like.”

Without Hill, the Dolphins don’t have a lot of high-end quality at wide receiver. New head coach Jeff Hafley enters the offseason with Jaylen Waddle as the only top-tier talent in the wide receiver room.
