What School Did Warren Go To?

A native of Mechanicsville, Va., Warren was a standout at Atlee High School, where he played nearly every position on the field. He was a three-time team captain and all-region selection, and twice earned all-state honors, including once as a punter. ESPN rated him a four-star recruit.

Warren’s athleticism wasn’t limited to football. He was also a three-time all-region basketball player and earned all-state honors in baseball. Warren initially committed to Virginia Tech as a quarterback during his junior year, but after coaches saw his athleticism on the basketball court, they believed he could transition to tight end.

With offers from Penn State, Clemson, and Alabama still on the table, Warren shifted his focus to tight end and reopened his recruitment. Two months later, he committed to the Nittany Lions.

Revisiting Warren’s College Career

Warren arrived in Happy Valley in August 2020 and appeared in two games as a freshman.
Over the next three seasons, he became a steady contributor in a TE room that included Pat Freiermuth, Brenton Strange, and Theo Johnson — all now in the NFL.

Despite playing a backup role in 2023, Warren earned third-team All-Big Ten honors, a sign of what was to come. In 2024, he started all 16 games and helped lead Penn State to a College Football Playoff semifinal appearance.

Warren finished second in the FBS in receptions and seventh in receiving yards, earning first-team All-American honors from the Football Writers Association of America and second-team honors from CSN.

How Fast Was Warren’s 40-Yard Dash?

At the NFL Combine, Warren did not participate in on-field drills and focused only on interviews. However, according to ESPN, his 40-yard dash time is 4.75 seconds, making him the 10th-fastest tight end in the 2025 class.

Warren’s vertical jump measured 32 inches, and his power throw was 37.

Where Did Warren Project in Our NFL Mock Draft?

In last month’s two-round mock draft from PFSN analyst Marco Enriquez, Warren is projected to be picked seventh overall by the New York Jets.

“Tyler Warren could immediately become their top option at tight end for the Jets, especially after they moved on from Tyler Conklin.

“Warren posted over 1,200 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He’s a playmaker with the ball in his hands and holds his own as a blocker. He excels in contested-catch situations and can be utilized in multiple offensive packages.”
