Penn State’s Tyler Warren’s path to the NFL wasn’t just built on talent — it was forged through legacy. Born into a family where sports weren’t just a pastime but a way of life, Warren grew up with high expectations and the athletic pedigree to match. From his early days as a three-sport athlete in high school to emerging as a dynamic force on the football field, Warren has consistently proven he belongs on the biggest stage. He didn’t just follow in his family’s footsteps — he sprinted past them with a blend of grit, versatility, and quiet determination.
But Warren’s story is more than stats and highlights. It’s rooted in a hometown that’s produced its fair share of standout names, and a household where competition came naturally and support ran deep. Warren is the product of something rare — a family that didn’t just talk about sports, but lived it.
As he prepares for the next chapter in his life, let’s examine how he got there.
Tyler Warren’s Early Life and Sporting Genes
Warren was born on May 24, 2002, and grew up in Mechanicsville, Va., the same community that acclaimed singer-songwriter Jason Mraz and former New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas hail from.
Warren attended Atlee High School, competing in basketball, baseball, and football. A mobile starting quarterback for Atlee, Warren amassed over 1,800 combined yards and 24 combined touchdowns over his senior year.
But Warren is far from an outlier in his family. His father, Terry Warren, played football for the University of Richmond from 1987 to 1990, while his mother, Sandy Warren, played football in high school.
And it doesn’t end there. Warren’s grandfather played football for Wake Forest University, and his grandmother attended Carson-Newman, competing in basketball. His aunt, Tracey George, played soccer for the University of Delaware.
After leaving college, Terry built a successful career as a wellness consultant for Health Management Corporation and went on to become the senior vice president of AblePay Health.
Not as much is known about Warren’s mother’s career, though she also attended the University of Richmond.
Does Warren Have Any Siblings?
Warren has an older brother and an older sister. His sister, Kelly, attended East Tennessee State University and played softball. Kelly became the school’s all-time leader in stolen bases in 2022, finishing with 83 over five seasons. Kelly graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration.
Warren’s brother, TJ, graduated from the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business and is now the vice president of transactional risk practice for an insurance company.
If Penn State head coach James Franklin could have it his way, though, Warren would have some younger siblings, too. Speaking to the press after his team’s final regular-season game against Maryland, Franklin suggested that he might encourage Warren’s parents to have more children.
“I’m [going to] try and convince his parents. I’m gonna send them on one of those romantic vacations up in the Poconos and try to get the parents to have more.”
While there may be no further children on the horizon for the Warrens, there will be plenty more memories to be made once their son hits the NFL turf come September.
