Tyler Shough’s Wife Jordan Makes Revelation About Saints QB As New Orleans Ponders Options After Derek Carr’s Retirement

Tyler Shough has had a roller coaster 30-day period. His wife had some thoughts on one of his recent declarations following Derek Carr's retirement.

Tyler Shough’s life likely just changed drastically yet again. Heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, the quarterback prospect could have theoretically gone to any of the 32 NFL teams. He landed with the New Orleans Saints.

Then, mere days after knowing he would be living in the Big Easy, he learned that the starting quarterback who seemingly could have bought him some time would not be able to buy any. Following Derek Carr’s retirement, it appears to be Shough’s job to lose.

Tyler Shough’s Wife Announces Thoughts on Rookie Saints QB

Many analysts and experts have reacted to the change of events, but now the Shough’s wife has spoken out. Taking to Instagram to post on her story on May 13, Jordan Shough put to bed any doubts about the quarterback trying to pull a Patrick Mahomes.

“Can confirm he will NOT be throwing lefty in a game (eyeroll emoji),” she posted in response to a video interview of her husband.

“I can throw the football left-handed pretty good, so I might try that in the game. Just kidding. Gonna try at practice probably first,” Shough had said in the interview posted on the Saints’ official Instagram account.

Of course, players throwing trick passes in games is nothing new. Mahomes has infamously completed a left-hand throw in a game in his career. Both Mahomes and Matthew Stafford have completed no-look passes. However, few quarterbacks can pull off these types of tricks on top of learning the rigors of the position.

Saints Quarterback Room Not Quite Set in Stone

With the news of Carr’s retirement so fresh and the presumptive starting quarterback raising doubts about his abilities in a game already, the question becomes whether the Saints should take a peek at the quarterback market.

Aaron Rodgers is still available, as is Teddy Bridgewater. Rodgers earned a 72.2 QB+ rating, threw for 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, which is in line with Carr’s 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2024.

Bridgewater saw success with the Saints under Sean Payton. With the team pivoting back to offense under Kellen Moore, it might be worth seeing if they can get another solid month out of the quarterback to buy Shough time to test out his left-handed passes and other tricks in practice.

Otherwise, the Saints could give Spencer Rattler one more shot in the early weeks to buy as much time as possible. At this point, all options, including a left-handed pass from Shough, are seemingly on the table.
