The Buffalo Bills will go up against the Houston Texans on Thursday in Week 12, and for the second straight game, second-year wideout Keon Coleman is expected to be inactive.
Coleman, who still ranks among Josh Allen’s top three receiving targets this season with 32 catches for 330 yards and three touchdowns, was made a healthy scratch in Week 11 after missing a team meeting, which led to frustration from fans. However, inside the Bills’ locker room, one teammate is making his support for Coleman apparent.
Tyrell Shavers to Fans Who Are Frustrated by Keon Coleman
During Thursday’s episode of FanDuel TV’s “Up and Adams Show,” receiver Tyrell Shavers talked about the criticism surrounding Keon Coleman.
“I just want to say he’s not perfect,” Shavers said. “He’s human at the end of the day. We all are human. Everybody makes mistakes, and he’s learning from them. We’ve got to remember that he’s young.”
Shavers, who spent time on the practice squad before earning a spot on the 53-man roster, understands better than most what it’s like to fight for this opportunity. Before this season, he had just one career reception, yet with Coleman out against Tampa Bay, he seized the moment, posting four catches for 90 yards and a touchdown in Buffalo’s 44-32 win.
Talking about whether Coleman supports him during this time, Shavers said:
“I’m the big brother, he’s the little brother in the family, like, I’m the more mature one, he’s like the little brother that plays around, hits you all the time. We mess around with each other but that’s my dawg and he definitely supports me even though things are not going his way, and I think that’s just the relationship we’ve built over time. Even when I wasn’t having these results, I was still supporting him the same way.”

Shavers is expected to start again Thursday with Dalton Kincaid, Curtis Samuel and Mecole Hardman all ruled out.
Bills coach Sean McDermott praised his persistence previously during training camp. After a 69-yard touchdown last season against the New York Jets, he continued building trust with the staff, something McDermott consistently values, and has made the receiver an easy fit within Buffalo’s offense.
The reliability was apparent against Tampa Bay, not only in his receiving production but in an important downfield block that sprung Ty Johnson for a 52-yard touchdown. PFSN’s WR Impact metric gives him a 73.3 score with a C grade.
