‘Looking Forward to Seeing Where This Goes’ — Rams’ Pro Bowler Reacts To Surprise Ty Simpson Pick in 2026 NFL Draft

Rams Pro Bowler Byron Young praises the controversial selection of rookie quarterback Ty Simpson, validating the front office.

It’s been over a week since the Los Angeles Rams shocked the NFL by selecting Ty Simpson, but the quarterback remains the subject of much discussion. Simpson, who’s expected to learn from Matthew Stafford, was taken in lieu of another player who could be an instant contributor. But his new teammates have been supportive.

Byron Young Praises Quarterback Ty Simpson, Shows Excitement About His Arrival

The Rams fell just short of the Super Bowl in 2025. Los Angeles lost an instant classic game against the Seattle Seahawks, who went on to win the championship after beating the New England Patriots in the big game. Stafford’s return for 2026 was the best news of the offseason.

Using a first-round pick on Simpson, however, was a questionable move. While there’s some logic in preparing for the future, the Rams are built to win now, and they were close to winning the second Super Bowl in five years. More importantly, Simpson’s selection at 13th overall was widely considered a reach by draft analysts.

Whatever the opinion on the pick, there’s no way back. For the Rams, supporting Simpson from now on is the way to go.

And his new teammate, Pro Bowler EDGE Byron Young, spoke about his arrival during an interview. If there was any disappointment in how the pick was used, Young didn’t show.

“I think he’s a good quarterback, he’s a great kid,” said Young of Simpson. “With the front office, trusting everything that they do is in the best interest of this team. I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes. We got some great players, got some D-linemen, got some tight ends. Got some receivers in there.

I can’t wait to see what these guys bring to this. I have no doubt that these guys will come in, definitely help motivate you regardless of what pick they are.”

The Rams made a bold move with Simpson. He won’t be an instant contributor, but the real question now is what will happen with Stafford, who’s negotiating a contract extension that could keep him playing for more than a year. If that’s the case, their first-round pick will have to wait longer.

During the 2025 season, the veteran ranked No. 6 in our PFSN QB Impact Metric. There have been no signs of decline in his play, and the happiness in Sean McVay’s face when he announced he would not retire says it all. If Simpson has to sit because Stafford is still playing, that won’t be a problem for the Rams.
