Who is the Eagles’ Top Rookie to Watch in Minicamp? Breaking Down Philadelphia’s Most Exciting First-Year Player

The Super Bowl LIX champions couldn’t have asked for a better defense in 2024. With one of the fiercest units in the NFL — finishing second in the PFSN Defense+ metric, behind only the Denver Broncos — the Philadelphia Eagles built a defense that blended youth and veteran leadership, anchored by a defensive line that overwhelmed Patrick Mahomes on the biggest stage.

A key reason for the Eagles’ consistent success is the masterful roster management of general manager Howie Roseman, who consistently identifies value and brings in key pieces to strengthen the team. In the 2025 NFL Draft, Philadelphia selected a defensive tackle who is expected to be the most-watched rookie as minicamp begins.

Ty Robinson Shines As the Top Player To Watch in Philadelphia’s Minicamp

The Eagles’ offseason once again showed why they remain at the top of the NFC, consistently contending for Super Bowls. After winning the title, Philadelphia saw several players depart in free agency — most notably defensive linemen Milton Williams and Josh Sweat. Williams, who had a strong season and an impressive playoff run, signed a four-year, $104 million contract with the New England Patriots.

These roster reshuffles are part of the team’s strategy to avoid overspending on players they don’t view as elite or essential to the system. On offense, that translated to contract extensions for Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith, along with Saquon Barkley signing a deal that made him the highest-paid running back in the NFL.

On defense, Vic Fangio believes certain positional renewals are necessary. While Zack Baun was re-signed, the biggest additions came via the draft. Philadelphia’s first five selections were on defense, and third-round pick Ty Robinson, a defensive tackle out of Nebraska, is expected to be one of the most watched rookies during minicamp.

With Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis locked in as starters, Robinson will have time to develop and could potentially split snaps with Davis, who excels against the run but is less impactful as a pass rusher. PFSN’s Brandon Austin highlighted one rookie to watch from each team, and had this to say about Robinson:

“Ty Robinson is a rugged, hard-nosed defensive lineman whose physical style fits the Eagles’ identity. He brings a no-nonsense approach to the trenches, using his strength to hold the point of attack and his effort to wear down opposing linemen. He’s built to contribute right away in the run game, and his play style aligns perfectly with Fangio’s front.”

While he isn’t viewed as a flawless prospect, Robinson will be closely monitored throughout minicamp because of the potential fit within this defensive system. Even if he begins the season as a depth piece, he’s expected to be an immediate backup to the starters.

His motor, agility, strong hands, and scheme versatility help offset his non-elite size. Capable of playing multiple techniques and fitting into various fronts, Fangio will be looking for development during the preseason, hoping to add Robinson to the rotation as soon as possible and keep the roster loaded for another Super Bowl run.
