Should You Start Alexander Mattison or Ty Chandler in Fantasy Football Week 12?

Which of the two Minnesota Vikings RBs -- Ty Chandler or Alexander Mattison -- should fantasy football managers have in their lineups in Week 12?

The Minnesota Vikings have been one of the most talked about teams recently because of the emergence of new quarterback Joshua Dobbs. However, there are some questions about the running game as well.

Is Ty Chandler ready to become the go-to running back for the Vikings, or should fantasy football managers continue to have Alexander Mattison in your lineup?

We’ll give you the fantasy football outlook for each player.

Should You Start Alexander Mattison or Ty Chandler This Week?

In the Pro Football Network Start/Sit Optimizer, our Consensus Rankings say that Mattison is the player to start. His projected 8.7 points include 36 rushing yards, two receptions, and 11 receiving yards. His projected stat line outperforms the consensus projection of Chandler’s 6.7 points.

With the way Dobbs has been also rushing the ball, it could be tricky to figure out which one of these running backs should be in your lineup. I am going to go against the Optimizer on this one, as Chandler appears to be the guy getting the ball moving forward.

Fantasy Outlook for Chandler This Week

Last week, in the game against the Broncos, Chandler showed his potential. He had 110 total yards of offense, with 37 of those yards being on four catches. In his last two games, he has rushed the ball 25 times for 118 yards and one touchdown.

Of Chandler’s 33 carries on the year, those 25 are in the last two games. This shows that the team is starting to trust him more, and there could be more opportunities for him moving forward this week.

The Vikings have a tough matchup this week against the Chicago Bears. The Bears enter this game as the second-ranked defense against the run, allowing only 79.5 rushing yards per game. While the Bears have done a tremendous job stopping the run, they do struggle to stop the passing game. Chicago ranks 26th (245.9 passing yards allowed), and this could be a favorable matchup.

For Chandler, the past two weeks are just the start for him. The Vikings are 100 percent right there in the thick of the playoff race, and they should be getting Justin Jefferson back very soon. Look for Chandler to record his second consecutive game with at least 100 yards of total offense and to get a touchdown in this game.

Fantasy Outlook for Mattison This Week

Mattison had 81 yards in the loss to the Broncos, which was his most since getting 95 yards against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4.

Mattison has carried the ball 148 times this year and has not been able to score a rushing touchdown. He has been able to score touchdowns catching the ball, as he has three receiving touchdowns.

Mattison doesn’t have quite the big play ability of Chandler, and he also has, at times throughout his career, had issues with fumbles. He fumbled last week against the Broncos, and right now, he just doesn’t give the Vikings offense quite what Chandler does.
