Tristan Wirfs Speaks Out About RB Bucky Irving’s Tense Moment with O-Line

So, what happened on the Buccaneers’ sideline was that, during Sunday’s game on Dec. 28 against the Miami Dolphins, the star running back was seen arguing with the Buccaneers’ offensive line.

When Irving went fully at the O-line outside of the turf, Wirfs stepped in, who was not playing in the game, and talked calmly to the 23-year-old running back. Talking about the viral incident, Wirfs talked to NFL reporter Greg Auman. He reported, “Asked Wirfs about this moment caught on video. He said it was a ‘little tiff,’ and that he was just letting Irving know the line would work out the problem.”

One fan reacted to the heated conversation, saying, “Wtf is Bucky doing, talking to a captain and multiple times all Pro and quite honestly the best player on the team like that?” While another one commented on Auman’s post on X: “O-Line hasn’t worked out their problems all season. Bucky is getting hit in the backfield almost every carry.”

However, if we look closely, the Buccaneers’ O-line did not struggle throughout the 2025 NFL season.

How has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ O-line performed in the 2025 NFL season so far?

The Buccaneers’ offensive line ranks 4th in the NFL in overall line play, per Sharp Football Analysis, driven by elite pass protection. Tampa Bay has allowed 37 sacks over the 2025 season, placing them around 16th league-wide in sacks allowed.

They are second in PFF pass-blocking grade, fifth in ESPN pass block win rate, sixth in ESPN run block win rate, while being 18th in PFF run-blocking grade so far in the 2025 season, per Draft Sharks.

Meanwhile, LT Wirfs continues to carry the line, earning another high honor and a 2026 Pro Bowl nod. Through 710 offensive snaps in 2025, PFF credited him with a 92.0 overall grade, allowing just two sacks and four QB hits, which places him among the league’s best tackles.

Broadly, analytics from third-party sources (Sharp Football Analysis) place Tampa Bay’s offensive line in a respectable spot in 2025, with metrics like 36.2 pass block efficiency and 33.7 run block efficiency, and an average of about 2.3 sacks allowed per game. These are not elite but are solid.

But what RB Irving pointed out was not related to the entire season, but the game-time decisions. Miami forced three Buccaneers turnovers, playing a major role in keeping Tampa Bay off the scoreboard.

Tampa Bay’s offense was ineffective enough that even a late score couldn’t secure the win, leaving them with a 7–9 record and still alive for the NFC South title, pending other results.

The Buccaneers’ next scheduled game in the 2025 NFL season is Week 18 against the Carolina Panthers at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, at 4:30 PM ET. This game will decide the NFC South title, as both Tampa Bay and Carolina control their own destiny.
