The Arizona Cardinals are currently in last place in the NFC West at 3-10 as they face the 8-5 Houston Texans in Week 15. The season has not gone as Cardinals fans hoped, and a large part of that has been thanks to injury after injury.
However, not all the news out of Arizona is bad news. Tight end Trey McBride has been a bright spot this season and proved it by setting an NFL record during their game against the Texans.
What NFL Record Did Cardinals’ TE Trey McBride Break During Week 15?
McBride, a second-round pick out of Colorado State in 2022, is having an outstanding season. A breakout season by McBride seems surprising, considering how the Cardinals’ offense has struggled through the first 15 weeks of the season.
Quarterback Kyler Murray is out nursing a lingering foot injury. The team felt there was no chance of risking his health when they had already eliminated themselves from playoff contention.
This means that backup Jacoby Brissett is starting instead. Heading into halftime, the Cardinals trail the Texans 7-23, but McBride has still managed to set an NFL record.
According to a post on X from Underdog NFL, “Trey McBride has 5+ receptions in 16 consecutive games. That’s an NFL record for a TE.”
The record that McBride broke was previously held by the three-time Super Bowl-winning tight end, Travis Kelce, from the Kansas City Chiefs.

This makes McBride one of the lone bright spots on a team that can’t seem to find its footing. So far in 2025, through Week 14, he has 93 receptions from 127 targets for 937 yards and eight touchdowns.
In the first half of the game against the Texans, he added another seven receptions for 69 yards and another touchdown.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryan spoke about the impact that McBride has on the game during his pregame interview.
“The thing that jumps off the tape for me with him is his speed and explosiveness at the tight end position,” Ryans told the media. “You truly feel like he’s a bigger guy but runs like a wide receiver. Really runs well. He’s physical. Really great hands. He’s really a unique player at the tight end position. He’s done a great job of catching the football, and they’ve done a great job of scheming plays for him.”

According to PFSN’s TE Impact metric, McBride is the fourth-best tight end in the league with a grade of B and a score of 85.6.
McBride signed an extension with Arizona prior to the 2025 season that keeps him a Cardinal through the 2029 season, barring a trade. It will be interesting to see how the organization attempts to build around him and Murray during the 2026 NFL Draft.
