TreVeyon Henderson Injury Update: What Happened to the Patriots RB, and Will He Return in Week 16?

A rough first half for the New England Patriots was made worse thanks to an awful start by TreVeyon Henderson against the Baltimore Ravens.

After blowing a 21-0 lead to the Buffalo Bills, the New England Patriots have very little room for error as they try to make their run to a playoff spot and potentially win the AFC East. However, they have another huge test in front of them in Week 16 as they take on the Baltimore Ravens.

Unfortunately, the game did not get off to a good start for the Patriots, as they fell behind 7-0 early, followed by Drake Maye throwing an interception in the red zone. To make matters worse, their star rookie running back, TreVeyon Henderson, was having one of his worst starts of the year before getting injured.

What Happened to TreVeyon Henderson?

As the Ravens marched down the length of the field, they were easily able to score a touchdown on the opening script. While putting up a solid answer, New England was unable to get the ball into the end zone.

However, a majority of their damage was done through the air, as the ground game was virtually nonexistent. It was a particularly brutal outing for Henderson, who ended up going backwards in his two carries on the night.

Thankfully, the team was able to rally back. Forcing a fumble on Derrick Henry, the Patriots got the ball back. Marching the length of the field once again, they were able to add in a touchdown thanks to a pillowy pass to Hunter Henry.

Henderson, though, still couldn’t get going. While he at least reached positive yardage on the night, he had totalled a woeful two rushing yards on four attempts. After an electric few weeks since head coach Mike Vrabel finally placed his trust in the rookie, it looked like he was finally coming back to Earth.

In the second quarter, however, a concerning situation began to develop for the rookie phenom. With the offensive line already dealing with a ton of injuries, Henderson may have been the latest name to go down.

After forcing a stop against Baltimore, the Patriots were trying to build a drive to take their first lead of the game. With a 1st and 10 opportunity, they gave the ball to Henderson, who tried to run it from the outside. As he was brought down by the Ravens, his leg twisted awkwardly on the tackle.

Soon after, he was helped to the sideline and into the medical tent by the training staff. He is being evaluated for a concussion and was questionable to return. In the second half, the Patriots announced that Henderson is ruled out for the rest of the game due to a head injury.

This season, Henderson is the No. 14-ranked back in PFSN’s RB Impact metric. He had enjoyed a remarkable turnaround over the last few weeks, ranking in the top-20 for seven consecutive weeks, and in the top-five in back-to-back outings.

That breakout coincided with an explosion in production from the star running back as well. In the last seven games, he had 620 rushing yards and six touchdowns to his credit, as he became a focal point of the offensive attack for the Patriots.

During that run, he had eclipsed the 100-yard mark on two separate occasions and was coming off arguably the best game of his career when he tallied 148 rushing yards and two touchdowns against the Bills in Week 15.
