Travis Kelce Reveals the Reason He Can’t ‘Look Andy Reid in His Eyes’ As Chiefs’ Disappointing Season Wraps Up

The Chiefs have had a miserable 2025 season, and star tight end Travis Kelce feels like some of the blame falls on him as a team leader.

The Kansas City Chiefs are in unfamiliar territory. After suffering another loss in Week 17, the team is now 6-10 and has been out of the playoff picture for weeks. This is a team that had made the playoffs in each of the previous 10 seasons and had won the division in nine of those.

Now, the Chiefs will finish with a losing record, and star tight end Travis Kelce recently explained why he can’t even stand to face his head coach.

Travis Kelce Opens Up on Frustrating Chiefs Season and Letting Down Andy Reid

In Week 17, the Chiefs played host to the Denver Broncos. Since the Chiefs are not making the playoffs, many wondered if this would be Kelce’s final home game as a Chief. Kelce sat down with another Chiefs legend, Tony Gonzalez, to talk about this season and his future. Gonzalez asked Kelce about dealing with the struggles of this season, considering that’s not something the team is accustomed to.

“We have a lot of unbelievable people, and people with great integrity in the building,” Kelce explained. “So that makes it a little bit easier to finish out this year, but it’s frustrating man. It’s frustrating.”

It’s been a bad year for the Chiefs, but Kelce has still been producing like a star tight end. The veteran has 73 catches for 839 yards and five touchdowns in 2025. PFSN’s TE Impact ranking gives Kelce an 82.6 grade for his performance, which is 7th out of 90 qualified tight ends.

As one of the leaders of the team, Kelce also explained how difficult it has been for him to face head coach Andy Reid. “I feel like I can’t even look my guy coach Andy Reid in his eyes right now because I feel like I disappointed him, or I let him down someway somehow.”

Gonzalez asked Kelce to elaborate on why he feels he has let down his coach. “That’s my fearless leader,” Kelce explained. “I just feel like it’s my job to go out there and make it happen.”

It’s understandable why Kelce is disappointed. After all, the Chiefs were expected to contend again this season, and instead, they’re going to finish in third place in their own division.

To make matters worse, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 15, and then backup quarterback Gardner Minshew suffered an injury the very next week.

Luckily, the Chiefs only have one more game before they can wipe the slate clean. The team will finish the 2025 season in Week 18 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
