Travis Hunter has been solid during his rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In Week 7, he had his best game as a wide receiver, setting new highs with eight receptions and 101 yards, while also scoring his first career touchdown.
The Jaguars served their bye week following the game, but they received devastating news on their emerging star. Hunter suffered a knee injury in practice and will be forced to miss some time this season.
Travis Hunter Injury Update
Hunter was officially placed on the injured reserve on Friday ahead of the Week 9 slate of games. He reportedly suffered a non-contact knee injury in practice on Thursday, according to head coach Liam Coen.
NFL insider Adam Schefter followed up on the initial report. He gave an update on the severity of the injury and discussed a potential timeline for his return.
“Initial testing revealed that Jaguars WR/CB Travis Hunter’s ACL is intact, per source. Hunter is going through additional testing to determine the extent of the injury and how long he’ll be sidelined, and no answers are expected before next week. Hunter injured his knee during practice on Thursday and was placed on IR today,” Schefter originally stated.
Placing him on injured reserve requires a minimum four-game absence, so the dynamic two-way rookie will be out until Week 13 at the earliest. The positive side is that he doesn’t appear to have torn his ACL, which is almost always a season-ending injury. Schefter explained that the team will provide a further update on the specifics of the injury at a later date.

The injury comes at an awful time for Hunter, who appeared to be breaking out as a wide receiver in his most recent game. His new career-highs in receptions and yards helped to elevate him to the 61st-ranked player in his position in the most recent PFSN WR Impact Rankings. He has 28 receptions for 298 yards on the year so far.
The Jaguars made a bold move in the 2025 NFL Draft to trade up and pick Hunter, who also contributes as a defensive back. He has totaled 15 tackles and defended three passes through seven games this season. His absence will require other players to step up on both sides of the ball for their Week 10 game against the Houston Texans.
