In the NFL, wide receiver is considered to be one of the premium positions. All it takes is one play-making wideout to immediately change the course of the game.
For the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers, one could make an argument they’re just a player or two away from being Super Bowl contenders. The Bills have always been on the cusp, and Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers is doing everything in his power, despite Pittsburgh’s expensive defense letting him down.
Bills and Steelers Have Their Eyes On Jakobi Meyers
Meyers, who began his career in New England, is currently in his third and final year with the Las Vegas Raiders. After moving on from the Patriots, he signed a three-year, $33 million deal with the Raiders. At 28-years-old, neither the Bills nor Steelers would be getting any younger, but they’d add a key WR that isn’t going to cost them in the long run.
“The Raiders have fielded calls from the Steelers and Bills on WR Jakobi Meyers, but Las Vegas has set a high price. Pittsburgh is looking at other wide receiver options, too,” The Athletic’s Dianna Russini confirms.
It comes as no surprise that Pittsburgh is looking for a receiver. Even though they have DK Metcalf, the rest of Rodgers’ receiving core seems to be non-existent. Metcalf leads the way with 461 yards, and then the next closest is tight end Pat Friermuth. After that is RB Jaylen Warren who has no business being third on the team with 195 yards. Take nothing away from Warren, but that goes to show how thin they are at wide receiver.
Josh Allen and the Bills find themselves in a similar situation. Allen can only do so much, and his lack of weapons proved to be a factor as Buffalo dropped two straight heading into their Bye week. They rebounded with a stellar 40-9 win over the Carolina Panthers, but now they’re tasked with facing one of the toughest schedules in the NFL.
Meyers 29 receptions for 329 yards would put him just 27 shy of team leading WR Khalil Shakir. Allen, similar to Rodgers, second leading receiver is actually a tight end. The dominant Dalton Kincaid is the only other player in Buffalo with 300+ receiving yards, with the next closest being 22-year-old Keon Coleman’s 267. In PFSN’s WR Impact Metric, Shakir has a B- while Coleman has a C-.
If Meyers is indeed traded to either of these teams, he’d immediately be their No. 2 wide receiver. Throughout his seven-year NFL career, Meyers has been extremely consistent, finishing with at least 800 yards in each of his last four seasons. Last year, he finished with a career high of 1,027.
