Tom Brady Reflects on His Perfect Pass to Mike Evans in 2021 Playoffs

During his career, Brady probably threw so many passes that some of them just had to be perfect. But, in his mind, the most perfect pass he threw was not until later in his career.

“Brady to Mike Evans, against the Rams, 2021 playoffs,” Brady said in a recent video. “We’re down multiple scores, about four or five minutes left in the game. It was a ‘go’ route on Jalen Ramsey. I threw over the top of Jalen to Mike perfectly in stride for a walk-in touchdown.

“It was a perfect spiral, the trajectory was perfect, the spin rate was perfect,” Brady said. “The ball just pierced through the air, and I could tell as soon as I let it go that it was going to be a perfect throw.”

In the 2021 NFL playoffs, the Buccaneers defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in an NFC Wild Card game to advance to the NFC Divisional Round. There, with the Buccaneers playing the Rams at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., the Rams pulled out a 30-27 victory over Brady and the Buccaneers.

Brady threw for 308 passing yards in that game, but the Tampa Bay rush attack was nowhere to be found. The Buccaneers only gained 51 yards against the Rams’ defense. But Brady, in his first season with the Buccaneers in 2020, led the team to a Super Bowl championship, defeating quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs 31-7. To reach the Super Bowl that season, Brady led Tampa Bay to playoff wins over Washington, the New Orleans Saints, and the Green Bay Packers, all on the road.

These days, Brady spends time working with the Las Vegas Raiders’ ownership group. Of course, Brady works alongside Kevin Burkhardt on “NFL on FOX” NFL game telecasts. Brady and Burkhardt will be in the booth on Sunday, Jan. 25, at Lumen Field in Seattle. That’s where Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks will host Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game.

According to the PFSN NFL QB Impact metrics, measured through the regular season, Darnold had an impact score of 78.7 and graded out at C+. As for Stafford, he had an impact score of 84.4 and graded out to a B. Both quarterbacks, though, hope they will have their “A” game ready to rock on Sunday.
