Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady got himself involved in a hilarious banter with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds. Both celebrities partially own soccer clubs aiming to make it to the English Premier League. Reynold acquired Wrexham AFC with Rob McElhenney in 2021. The seven-time Super Bowl champion owns Birmingham City FC.
Reynolds took some hilarious digs at Brady ahead of Wrexham’s fixture against Birmingham City in January. But now, the Hollywood superstar has a comical request for the NFL GOAT, and Brady reacted to it with a humorous five-word remark.
Tom Brady’s Reaction to Ryan Reynolds’ Plea
McElhenney was presented with a Birmingham City jersey with his name on the back before the Wrexham vs. Birmingham City fixture in September 2024. Cut to May 2025, he gifted the shirt to the Classic Football Shirts shop.
On Wednesday, Birmingham City’s owner, Tom Wagner, took to Instagram to share that he has bought the shirt from the shop.
“God forbid we make a friendly gesture to @wrexham_afc. It’s the least we could do,” he captioned the video. He revealed that he will donate the money spent on purchasing the shirt to the Wrexham AFC foundation.
A day later, Reynolds sent Wagner a hilarious yet lovely message asking for the shirt along with a special item, which the latter posted on his Instagram handle.
“Wagner, I want the jersey. This video stays between us, it’s to be seen by nobody but you. But I really want that jersey. I’m a huge Tom Brady fan, and I have been for a long time. He touched the jersey, so now I want the jersey that he touched. If you could just name your price, I’ll pay it and then get a strand of his hair just for me, for no reason, just for fun,” the film star said in the clip.
“@vancityreynolds has entered the chat. Let’s discuss your price…” Wagner wrote in the caption.
Brady responded to the request by resharing the clip on his Instagram story with the text: “Transfer Budget Just Went Up”

The saga is yet to take its final turn, and it’d be interesting to see if Reynolds gets his hand on the jersey and/or Brady’s hair strand.
After a long season of banters, digs, and soccer, Brady’s Birmingham City finished first in the Football League One. Although Reynold’s Wrexham were 19 points behind, they finished second and punched their ticket to the EFL Championship.
It’s the Red Dragons’ third promotion in three years. However, Wrexham couldn’t beat Birmingham City FC this season, losing 3-1 in September last year and drawing 1-1 in January 2025.
