The Tennessee Titans’ rebuild continues going into 2025, and their latest move involves not players but how the players look.
The Titans are officially moving forward with new home uniforms this season. The two-toned blues are out, and “Titans Blue” is in. The “Titans Blue” is not a new color for the team; it was introduced without a title prior to the 2003 NFL season.

Titans Introduce “Titans Blue” As Their New Home Look
“Steve (McNair) and Eddie (George), they came in the locker room and looked at that jersey, and they were like, ‘Wow.’ It was something different…They’d worn the two-tone blue before, but it was now reversed and more light blue. It just popped, and they loved it” says Joey Barranco, Director, Equipment Operations for the Titans.
We have seen this “Titans Blue” on more than just jerseys throughout the years, but players have also loaded up their on-field accessories with these colors, such as cleats, tape, etc. This look means that Navy Blue is no longer the primary color and is only seen in the numbers for this new look.
The Navy Blue uniforms have been relegated to an alternate set. With the “Titans Blue” look to be worn during every home game, it is unknown when fans may see the Navy Blue set this season.

“We’re talking to fans and we’re listening, and there’s a clear appetite to have the Titans, their team, represented on the field in this noticeable color that has been with this team from 1960 in Houston, into Memphis, at Vanderbilt and as we’ve played at Nissan Stadium,” Titans President and CEO Burke Nihill said.
The Titans certainly are still celebrating their history as a franchise by using their new primary color full-time. Once upon a time, the Tennessee Titans were the Houston Oilers, also donned in a light blue jersey color that would evolve into “Titans Blue”, and it appears that Nihill does not intend to forget the franchise’s roots.

While honoring the roots and focusing on the future is the intention behind this uniform move, one would still expect to see a throwback night in Oilers uniforms this season, right? Wrong.
Titans Won’t Wear Throwback Oilers Uniforms this Season
With the changing of colors and brand new jerseys coming in, the Titans announced they would not be wearing the throwback Houston Oilers jerseys for the 2025 NFL season. It remains to be seen if we will ever see them again, considering this new future the Titans are looking towards.
The Oilers’ throwbacks have always come with some controversy, as some bitter feelings remain about how the Oilers left Houston to become the Titans.
The Titans left and took the colors with them to Nashville after the 1996 season, leaving a hurt Houston fan base behind and without a team for a short time until the Texans came to town in 2002.
The Oilers even played two seasons as the Tennessee Oilers in 1997 and 1998. The uniforms, which are iconic, to say the least, were last worn during the 2024 season in Week 18 against- you guessed it- the Houston Texans, further rubbing salt in the wound.
It remains to be seen if we see the classic Houston Oilers uniform throwbacks on an NFL field again. The Titans seem keen on recognizing their history through colors going forward and hope a fresh look will bring a fresh start in play.
