JC Latham, the Tennessee Titans’ first-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, is fully backing the team’s selection of Cam Ward this past draft cycle. After enduring the team’s brutal 3-14 season last year, Latham believes head coach Brian Callahan and his staff have the Titans headed in the right direction. He recently spoke about Ward’s early presence at camp and what he sees in the 2025 No. 1 overall pick.
JC Latham Hypes Up Cam Ward
With a $32.1 million signing bonus as part of his four-year, $48.7 million contract, the Titans went all in on Ward to open the 2025 draft. Tennessee’s search for a long-term quarterback has been well documented, and the Will Levis experiment didn’t pan out.
Mason Rudolph is no longer on the roster, so Ward immediately jumped ahead of Levis and is set to begin the season as Tennessee’s QB1.
“It’s been great. Great kid, humble kid, outgoing,” Latham said. “He’s only been there a couple of days, so he’s really quiet, but definitely pushing himself to learn the system.
“He’s a leader, taking accountability for himself whenever he makes a mistake, before anyone can say anything about it. I’m really excited for him; I think he has an amazing future ahead of him.”
Ward’s college career was a major success. He threw for 39 touchdowns with 4,313 passing yards and just seven interceptions in his 2024 season at Miami. After starting his career at Incarnate Word, Ward spent two seasons at Washington State before transferring to Miami. His stats improved year over year, and the 23-year-old has grown more confident as a quarterback at each stop.
Latham continued to speak about the Titans’ outlook for 2025.
“Everything that we are doing right now is pushed to be the best. It’s not ‘We want to win a couple more games’… we’re trying to establish our culture here, our identity, and who we are as a team.”
Latham added, “Getting Cam Ward and getting the other guys as well, we’re establishing that. That’s what it is — this is our culture.
“We sat down and went through everything. What it means to be a Tennessee Titan, what it means to be here, and what it means to the fans and everybody. It’s not just an on-the-field thing. It’s being connected to the community and everybody.”
The Titans will open the 2025 season on Sunday, Sept. 7, in Denver against the Broncos, with their home opener scheduled the following week against the Los Angeles Rams.
