The Tennessee Titans have the enviable position of holding the first overall pick in a loaded 2025 NFL Draft class. Names like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders could potentially be long-term solutions to any team’s quarterback problems, whereas Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter have separated themselves as the best available players.
All in all, for a team needing help on both sides of the football, the Titans have a plethora of options to choose from. However, one interesting wrinkle is the team potentially trading backward to stockpile draft assets. And that possibility might be more likely than you think.
Tennessee Titans Trade Down? GM Mike Borgonzi Believes It’s a Possibility
Teams like the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants are also in desperate need of a quarterback to stabilize their situation. And the assuredness of having their own selection might prompt either team to take the plunge on a blockbuster trade.
Provided that the Titans themselves are interested. And, judging by general manager Mike Borgonzi’s comments, who was part of a huge contingency that the team sent to scout Cam Ward at Miami’s Pro Day, Tennessee might not be opposed to the idea.
“I would say everything is still on the table. From the beginning, I said I wanted to go through the whole process, and I felt like our priority was to build the offensive line first, and we added (tackle) Dan Moore and (guard) Kevin Zeitler.”
After building out an offensive line to get better protection for their quarterback, the next step is finding a man behind center. “Now we’re going through the process here with the college quarterbacks. But I’d say everything is still on the table right now.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes that both the Giants and the Browns will make compelling offers to the Titans. But it all boils down to, “If there is a team that can come up with an offer that the Titans can’t pass up.”
The latest mock draft from PFSN, though, is going in a completely different direction. Rather than adding a quarterback altogether, Tennessee is adding Penn State standout Abdul Carter.
Marco Enriquez explained his decision, “Even with a small groundswell towards Cam Ward being the No. 1 selection, I cannot find an explanation for passing on a talent like Abdul Carter.”
However, with both Cleveland and New York desperately wanting fresh blood at the QB spot, the Titans could look to trade down and add some draft capital while still getting their guy in Carter. In this scenario, though, the team would most likely proceed through another season with Will Levis as their quarterback.
Even if they add another signal caller later in the draft, he would most likely not be ready to be an NFL starter by Week One. And with the veteran market all but emptied, their hopes would once again lie on Levis’ shoulders.
