‘Their Fans Will Be Insufferable’ — 2-Time Super Bowl Champion Draws Parallels Between Knicks, Cowboys

Two-time Super Bowl winner Torrey Smith compared the New York Knicks winning the NBA championship to a Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl win.

The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most popular teams in all of sports, but the franchise is in the midst of a 30-year Super Bowl drought. Their last Super Bowl victory came in 1996 when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX.

Similarly, the New York Knicks are one of the most popular teams in the NBA, but they haven’t won a championship since 1973. However, the Knicks currently have a 2-0 lead over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals as the series shifts back to New York for Games 3 and 4, prompting an NFL legend to compare the Knicks and Cowboys.

Torrey Smith Compares New York Knicks Fans to Dallas Cowboys Fans

In a post on X, two-time Super Bowl champion Torrey Smith compared the Cowboys to the Knicks, who are on the verge of ending their 53-year championship drought. The main reason he compared the two iconic franchises? Their “insufferable” fan bases.

“The Knicks winning it all is like the Cowboys winning it all. Their fans will be insufferable,” Smith wrote.

The Cowboys are trying to return to contention after missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. Dallas had a strong draft, adding a number of reinforcements on the defensive end including Caleb Downs, Malachi Lawrence, and Jaishawn Barham. They used five of their seven picks on the defensive side of the ball.

This offseason, the Cowboys further improved their roster by trading for Rashan Gary and Dee Winters, while adding Cobie Durant and Jalen Thompson. They also hired Christian Parker as their defensive coordinator to replace Matt Eberflus.

During Friday’s segment of “First Things First,” NFL analyst Greg Jennings tabbed the Cowboys as a potential NFC Championship Game threat due to their offseason moves.

“This team can make a lot of noise next year because we know just how good they are on the offensive side,” Jennings said. “We’ll see the finished product as the season progresses. I’m excited about the Cowboys. And I know we talk about the Cowboys, you know, and Jerry Jones a lot [as] Super Bowl or bust and the last time we’ve seen them in an NFC Championship Game and all those things. But they have a real shot this year. And I believe they just might get close.”

Last season, they had the worst defense in the NFL according to PFSN’s Defense Impact Score, posting a league-worst grade of 62.1.

Now, after revamping the defense, Dallas is hoping to have a strong bounce-back year and go on a deep postseason run of their own, just like the Knicks are doing right now.
