Aaron Rodgers will suit up for the Pittsburgh Steelers in his 21st season in the NFL. The Super Bowl XLV champion officially signed with the team on June 7. He spent most of his career with the Green Bay Packers, where he was the backup quarterback behind Brett Favre.
An actor from the “The Office” show revealed how he met the legendary quarterback in the middle of a shocking Favre moment.
‘The Office’ Star Shares Unexpected Aaron Rodgers Moment Involving Brett Favre
Celebrities and athletes often bump into each other on game days or at events. Many stars love taking in the thrill of a sporting event from the stands. It is usually followed by a meet-up and photo sessions at the end of the game, building friendships.
But it wasn’t the case with “The Office” star Brian Baumgartner, who met the 10-time Pro Bowler Rodgers in one of the most unexpected ways. During an episode of “The Rich Eisen Show,” Baumgartner recalled his first encounter with the Steelers QB.
The 52-year-old actor was discussing golf’s role in his friendship with star athletes, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield. Eisen asked him if it helped him meet Rodgers too.
“My very first one [encounter with Rodgers]. In fact, the day that we met was the day, this is 2008, that Favre said, ‘I’m not retiring.’ We were sitting next to each other at a blackjack table. There are blackjack tables there in Lake Tahoe. And he’s sitting next to me and I don’t know who he is,” Baumgartner said.
“Like I knew who he was, but I didn’t recognize him. He was a fan of The Office and we just started a relationship there. And on the screens a TV show a station that was running sports on loop… and they were saying like Favre is not retiring. What’s happening to Aaron Rogers? And we’re literally sitting next to each other.”
Favre actually returned from retirement and was eventually traded to the New York Jets, leaving Rodgers to take the Packers’ QB mantle. The team finished the season with a 6-10 record in the 2008 regular season.
Rodgers’ love for golf isn’t a mystery. The four-time NFL MVP clinched the net portion of the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am playing alongside PGA Tour pro Ben Silverman, recording a score of 26 under over three days.
Rodgers and Baumgartner have been spotted together at many events and some after-parties as well. Eisen even produced a picture during the episode of Baumgartner with Rodgers from the Emmy Awards.
