The Houston Texans (3-4) are far from the lead in the AFC South, and their Week 9 matchup against the Denver Broncos (6-2) is crucial to keep their hopes alive for at least a Wild Card spot.
The first two quarters of the game at NRG Stadium ended with the Texans leading 12-7. Still, the offense’s lack of efficiency once again put offensive coordinator Nick Caley in the crosshairs of Texans fans, who were dissatisfied with the offensive coordinator’s work.

Nick Caley Disappoints Again with Poor Performance
During the first two quarters, the Texans’ offense managed only 3 of 10 completions on 3rd down and allowed four sacks, despite having possession for just over 22 minutes. There is great dissatisfaction among fans, especially with short passing plays and decisions made in the red zone, showing a lack of repertoire.
Texans fans were already suffering after two seasons with Bobby Slowik as offensive coordinator, and the arrival of a former member of the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams coaching staff raised high expectations that he would be effective and help unlock the potential of quarterback C.J. Stroud.
But the current season has been disastrous for Houston, one of the lowest-scoring teams in the regular season (21.2 points per game). Before the game against the Broncos, local media reports during the week indicated that there was no chance of a change in the coaching staff.
There is great potential to improve the Texans’ passing game this season, but their current performance is far from ideal and a long way from the powerhouse that the Houston team (who currently ranks 19th in the PFSN Offense Impact with 72.2 metric score) could become in the AFC. Fans were distraught and expressed their frustration on social media. “Nick Caley has to go,” said one.

Caley has been in the NFL since 2015 and spent his first eight seasons with the Patriots primarily as a tight ends coach before being hired by the Rams, where he also took on the role of passing game coordinator in 2024.
All of Caley’s experience in the NFL has instilled a sense of confidence that the work will be developed at a high level with the Texans; however, many changes will be necessary to continue believing in the possibility of improvement until the end of the regular season.
